Items should be reskinnable

Suggestion for 2.0:

Items should be reskinnable. By this i mean applying the apearance of an item onto another of the same type. This would destroy the target appearance item* in the process. Implementation examples: Aion, Tera.

In order for such a feature to be succesful and practical:

• It should not be crafting related**. Have an NPC do it if necessary.
• The skining process should preserve dyed color from the target appearance item.
• You should be able to carry the skin of an item over multiple re skinning (using a modified item as a target appearance item)
• It should not be limited to normal gear. Any piece of gear should be skinnable or used as skin.

*: Target appearance item: item which skin will be applied the the resulting item. This one is destroyed in the process.
**: You should be able to apply it at will from your inventory screen in a quick and instantanious manner. Any character customization action should not be delayed or restricted by a mandatory and potentially long/complex interaction with someone else.

Maxwell your thread could very well get locked for just mentioning another game so probably best to remove the examples, your thread looks solid enough to not need an example. Also there is a thread of that same topic here

Your better off supporting that thread since its already gaining momentum and right now mods are in lock out mode and a portion of the forum community is in pitchfork and torches mode.

I saw that coming . I'm focusing on the feature itself here. I think it should be standard in any modern mmo. I simply stated implementation examples. Removing the words "Tera" and "Aion" would not change the essence of the post.

Based on this interview i am confident that mentioning other games as examples is perfectly legitimate. You might be thinking about threads that have been completely derailed to other games. I dont want to talk about aion or tera. I'm simply stating a clearly defined suggestion in a concise manner, which i believe will be way easier to pick up and convey around should it be the case.

why do you want a standard in all the games when the point is for them to be different?

Nice idea, but as above I think vanity slots would be a better fit.

You say above for example not limited to normal gear and then say the gear being skinned is destroyed, how does that work for AF and U/U gear ?

So yes I like the idea of wearing gear for vanity purposes but think vanity slots would work just as well no gear would get destroyed in the process.
