Can't play PS5 version of the game without buying another copy?

Can someone please escalate this to a game engineer in charge of account cross-platform services? I can't find any free option on the PS store for people who already have a PC license. I heard from a friend you can just download the PS5 version if you already have a PC license but the only option I see on the PS store are paid.

Sorry, but your friend is incorrect. You have to buy the game (and expansions) for each platform that you want to play on.

One slight upside though is that for each new platform you get 30 days free so that's something at least.

There's your answer. The only free version of PS5 is if you're upgrading from the PS4 version.

They need to change this ASAP. Extorting consumers out of another $60 to buy a full game to play the exact same game just on a different platform is scummy.

Though it'd be nice to have access to all platforms under the single cost of the game/subscription, realistically it's not going to happen unless they make it completely free (aside from subscription costs).

You're effectively paying for a license to play the game on that platform. If SE was to provide a license for every platform under the same single game payment, it'd be a hell of a lot more than $60.

Same with pretty much all cross-platform games - just because you purchase it on one platform doesn't automatically mean you can get it for free on another.

Literally every game that has cross-save and is not F2P functions like this. Why should they give the game away for free on another platform just because you purchased it somewhere else? That's a ridiculous notion to have.

Sorry, but I don't see that happening any time soon. It's been just over 9 years since this game was available on multiple platforms (PC and PS3 back then) and it's been this way all that time.

Even their previous MMO (Final Fantasy XI Online) worked in a similar way. Although only the PC version is still going, back then you could play on PC, PlayStation 2 or Xbox 360, but you still had to buy it for each platform you wanted to play on. I think this was actually because you needed the media to install the game and there was no way to download from a store back then, but it's the same result.

However, you only need to pay for ONE subscription and it will cover all the platforms on your account so the monthly cost remains the same and as mentioned above you do get 30 days free with each platform so that somewhat subsidises the cost.

This isn't just SE's call either. This is something that is also generally required by the individual platforms (minus PC). Sony requires a separate license for the PS version and Valve requires a separate license for the Steam version for some odd reason. It's also why you can't migrate your version from Steam to PC or vice versa without buying a whole new version.
