Trying to climb with PLD sounds miserable, it's probably doable but will take a lot more time and effort to dredge through the first brackets where people don't understand they are under your Cover and can Elixir up.

They are however kinda hated on higher end due how good they are when people have actual teamwork.

If you only care about rank I'd recommend another Job to climb until at least Plat.

It's hard to pick another job because someone told me I should try PLD and run it. I don't really know much else other than BLM - and I doubt it's a carry.

PLD's gotta be extremely rough at lower levels because it's greatest strengths are protecting its teammates and controlling key enemies with its oGCD 3 second stun shield bash. Its personal burst damage potential isn't the greatest in the mode, so it's tough to secure kills without experienced teammates, and if your team is forcing you to stun defensively or cover when they're not even using their own survival options or damage options effectively, that'll even further hamper your ability to make a difference.

I'm just surprised nobody commented on this earlier, but BLM is definitely a carry capable job in lower ranks, in my experience way moreso than BRD or PLD are. Any job that can do high burst damage is to a degree, and BLM also happens to have incredible crowd control as well. It can't stun for 3 seconds like Shield Bash, but deep freeze is a 2 second stun, or a bind or heavy which can be just as effective for thwarting enemies and securing kills. It's also oGCD, and unlike PLD it's also AoE. Plus, you have Sleep to force out Guards and Purifies on clumps of the enemy team, allowing you to set up kill targets for yourself instead of necessarily your teammates like on BRD and PLD. BLM tends to be much more able to dish out damage that has to be respected, and at lower levels likely it won't be respected and players are going to instead just clump up and die.

It may be hard to count on your team for peels sometimes, but even against most jobs if you stand back, use your corners, Aetherial Manipulations, and retreat while applying debuffs well, a well played BLM is a menace to the entire enemy team and pretty hard to be taken down by the one enemy player that recognizes that the BLM is decimating their whole team.

That's true for most jobs, but BLM absolutely has the capacity to just kill the agressor or force em to back off and if you're behind your team's lines, they'll probably run through somewhere vulnerable and then you just freeze em while they're wide open to everyone else.

BLM's aoe potential can flatten teams of players if they stay clumped up and especially if you use its Limit Break, which is available frequently and can be used in advance from a safe position.

Just make sure not to chase folks down alone if you're in the habit of doing so. You can do this a little bit with Manipulate, Burst and a swiftcast spell for a finisher, but your mobility comes from ample player targets, and your survival comes from being a distant target and your ample crowd control options on agressors, so your place is mostly behind your teams' lines within range of allies and foes and blowing up folks on the Crystal or whoever pokes their head out of cover.

There are some absolutely amazing paladins that play CC and carry their team on their back. That being said it is an extremely busy job with high punish/reward structure based on decisions you make. It certainly isn't for everyone. If you like playing DPS give GNB a try. You can clap people almost as quickly as many of the first choice dps jobs. DRK is also really good at controlling the crystal if you like complexity but less complex than PLD. I don't suggest anyone to play WAR. It's just a bunch of Crowd Control held together loosely by filler buttons. Bottom line if you aren't doing well with the job I would definitely suggest trying another before calling it quits. And don't let the lower ranks discourage you. They are really awful this season.

Had Raven from the PvPrimal discord suggest me BRD. Though I've heard a lot of people cry about BRD since this patch. Not sure how it fares...
