Off-Topic forums.

A lot of people recently want to chatter about off topic subject (Non-FFXIV) so would it be a good idea in having an off-topic forums. What does the FFXIV community thinks? Have an off-topic forums in the official FFXIV Forums? then again as i type this, i would think an off topic forums would have a lot of drama and need to be heavily moderated.

I wouldn't see why not, every other MMO allows for off-topic forums for those of us who enjoy talking about everything under the sun with friends and others we meet and play a game with. Ofcourse it would have its rules and such which would need to be followed but it would probly save the current mods from closing 20 threads a day because of recent media hype or random threads about anything not FFXIV.

No, thanks. This is the official forum, meant for feedback. There are plenty of fansite forums and SE also offered the linkshell forums for those in a urge for off-topic chit-chat ^^: SE also has a forum at their site that can be used for chit-chat.

Also, it would be a waste of server memory and menpower having to store and moderate a forum that would bring no benefit to the game at all.

Because off topic forums are bad for...

1. You.
2. Square-Enix's image (think of all the rabid God and Politics debates).
3. Bandwidth hog; they get filled with redundancy and garbage that has nothing to do with the goal of the entire message board.
4. Search engines will pick up on it and completely misrepresent SE's image. An image is important to a company, especially in the entertainment business.

I wouldn't have a problem with it per se, but I think it would be a waste of SE's time to be moderating it. Closing off topic threads it a lot less work than moderating an off topic forum
