What if SE allowed us to place indoor items on our islands?

It occurred to me when I was toying with trying to build a "house" on my island, that I'd be able to actually build something pretty fantastic if I could only place indoor items on the island in addition to the outdoor items.

Using partitions, pillars, and lofts, we could conceivably build actual houses on the island! So how's about it SE? Why not let us place both indoor and outdoor items on the island and bump the item count to 400!

How many men am I involved with? Well that depends... do you mean men as in males? Or just midlanders?

I'd rather have a proper instanced housing system because a tropical island isn't going to be where everyone wants to build their house.

Still, I wouldn't object to them allowing indoor items to be placed on the island in addition to outdoor items.

I do have a mini-house set up on the Overlook on one of my character islands. I used the Hedge Partitions for walls, Lotus Parasols to create the (admittedly leaky) roof and Brick Paving for the floor. Oriental Deck is combination bed/scenic "window", Red Brick Kitchen is the kitchen and Camping Furniture for dining set (though I'll probably replace that with a pair of Island Wooden Chairs and a Blooming Garden Table at some point). A Riviera Path Light hidden in one of the Parasols adds some lighting at night.

Creating a larger house would be fairly easy by adding on the Ivy-canopied Deck and the La Noscean Grape Pergolas would create a better looking roof (though the additional posts would make it feel more cramped, which is why I ended up going with the Lotus Parasols.

How about that it starts out as a tropical island but you eventually discover lost Allag technology burried deep inside the caves under your island that allows you to control the weather of your island? So you must grind towards being able to control the environment of your island just the same way you grind to upgrade the structures.

I’ve really downgraded my expectations for an instanced housing system at this point. lol but at the top of my list is the ability to set the environment or “biome” from the start. I’m sure they could make some nice, pretty, generic islands to represent all the existing housing districts. They can explain it lore-wise with Allag like you say, or even just weird weather currents leftover from the Calamity (Ishgard wasn’t always snowy for example).

If I have to grind for it, and I’m sure I will, I don’t want to have to start with tropical and continue grinding for something else. Honestly I’d rather just pay the same amount of gil as a ward house and be done with it! lol

Why create a cumbersome system like that instead of simply allowing the player to pick their preferred environment from the start?

Housing is not the type of content that should be a grind. It should be the content the player uses to relax in the time between the grinds just as our homes are the places we relax after a day of work or running errands.

I mean given the amount of gil one can dump into housing I am assuming it was meant to probably actually remove gil from the economy; although its faaaar too slow at it.

If they developed housing specifically to be a gil sink from the start, they did a really crappy job of designing it. You don't add content that only the wealthiest players can afford then block those players from being able to purchase (unless they were willing to donate that gil to their FC).

Which is why instance housing would fix. People would have to start with a small and build up to medium/large. Wards are just complete shit and just causing more server bloat than instanced housing. It takes way more memory usage for a single person to be in an entire ward, hell even our sanctuary islands that it would for a sole instance plot that can be upgrade with some scenery.
