Y'shtola did actually mention Unukalhai while in Alzadaal's Legacy. Obviously this only happens if you've done the quests. But they aren't going to bring Unukalhai in properly unless they make the trial series required. As for Cyella, although I don't think they will make all the role quest mandatory, they could still manage to re-tell aspects of her story in the MSQ like they have done before when bringing sidequest lore into the MSQ.

Our own world is full of loose threads that will never have a resolution of which we personally become aware. Fictional literature in general leaves many things unsaid, unrevealed and unknown. I know of no writers who can neatly package their works to answer each and every question about "what happened next?"

"And they lived, happily" glosses over a number of details. It also ensures interest in revisiting an author's world.

There are always mysteries that we will never personally solve. They may be answered in passing by another, they may be totally ignored.

It means what it means. If you actually think over the details instead of the first-glance "he's from the Thirteenth so he should be involved", he really wouldn't be all that helpful to us. He was a kid who lived in the now-effectively-nonexistent world that was transformed into the void and then rescued from the ruins by Elidibus. It doesn't sound like he has a lot of experience with its current state. Cylva is likely in a similar position.

Additionally, the in-universe logistics of getting either of them to help are fairly high effort for what may be very little practical assistance. Unukalhai is one of the two specific people needed to cast the gate-spell from the First to Thirteenth, so it's not really an option for him to journey into it. Cylva could go, but given that the Thirteenth is as big as the Source and portals take you to the equivalent locations in the destination shard, she's in Mor Dhona while the other portals are in Thavnair and on the moon.

And yes, I am a massive salt-mine about this game's increasingly-compounding storytelling / content-utilisation issues.

You're this salty because they chose not to include certain side characters into the MSQ? I mean... alright?

OP said they were loose threads, and they aren't. I said in another post (that you conveniently chose to ignore) they're side stories, and some more side stuff after 6.5 would be nice, but that their goal (Restoring the XIIIth) has never been part of the "Save Azdaja, defeat Golbez" plot that 6.X has been all about. It's not a loose thread, it's just characters not being made as important to the MSQ. You could do this with literally ANY character in the game, and then we'd never finish:

- Why wasn't Kurenai part of the negotiations to bring Sui no Sato to the Eastern Alliance?
- Why didn't the Four Lords help power The Ragnarok?
- Why does no one in Garlemald remember Regula?
- Why is The Gration still parked in Azys Lla?
- Why wasn't Fran part of the Ilsabard Contingent?
- Why isn't Ejika helping in Sharlyan during the Final Days?
- Why is Matoya absent during EW other than one or two mentions?
- Why isn't Mikoto with the Bozjan Unit for Endwalker?
- Why doesn't Jenomis go back to Garlemald to help with the rebuild efforts?
- Why haven't Gaius and Allie gone back to Garlemald to help the people?
- Why wasn't Gaia with Ryne when the Scions left?
- Why wasn't Gaia with Ryne (or even mentioned) when we go back to The First during 6.0?
- Why isn't Y'mhitra helping her sister with ANYTHING AT ALL?
- Why wouldn't the Scions get involved in the YoRHa incident?
- Why are Hraesvelgr and Tiamat not trying to save Azdaja at all?
- Why did we go to Vidofnir and not Hraesvelgr in search for wisdom to give the dragons of UT hope?
- Where are Gaia and Ryne at all?
- Why didn't Emet and Hyth do ANYTHING about Pandaemonium?

There's more, and you could give in-lore answers to all of them, but here's the real reason: A character being tangentially related to something in the MSQ doesn't mean they have to be forced back into it every single time.

Sorry your favorite character isn't back this time. If I had it my way, Feo'Ul, Ryne, Gaia, Y'mhitra, Alka Zolka and Setoto would be permanent cast members, and I could contrive some reason to justify them being core members of the team, but again: You could do that with ANY character in the game. I'd love to see the sister dynamics between Shtola and Mhitra, but it's not MANDATORY for the character to be part of the MSQ just because she's related to Shtola, no matter how much I personally would love to see it.

All of that said, could we still see them integrated? Yeah, sure. It'd be fun, as much as I'd like them to stop ignoring that Gaia literally became Ryne's rock after her dad left.

In addition to my earlier comments, I still firmly believe that we're going to get some kind of continuation of Unukalhai and Cylva's story arc as an additional non-MSQ plotline dealing with whatever state the Thirteenth is in once the MSQ is finished with this part of the story. It's sounding like they might even bring Ryne and Gaia into it.

I genuinely feel that the Eden storyline should've been the actual post Shadowbringers patch MSQ instead of the raid series, given how important it is to the general story arc, and also thinking of how impactful Ryne, Gaia or Eden reactivated/repurposed could've been to the ongoing 13th plot. It would be really easy to insert Elidibus as the antagonist there (alongside Mitron, but he doesn't have a big presence until the end anyway) to have his story moving forward with his defeat.
