How does Cloud of Darkness fit into the 6.x story, if at all?

Cyella? Unukalhai?

Mhach? Amdapor? Void Ark? Dun Scaith? Sixth Umbral Calamity?

Or are we just going to pretend those loose threads never existed in 6.5.

The Cloud of Darkness was mentioned, but hasn't shown up. If distances in the Void are like distances on the Source, she'd be a quarter of the way around the world, and voidsent aren't really known to cooperate freely, so it's not like anyone's gonna go gossip with her about it.

Cyella and Unukalhai are locked behind optional content, so of course they're not gonna be mentioned in the main story. If you go talk to them on the First, they do get some new dialogue.

Mhach, the Void Ark, and Dun Scaith are all on the Source (and also only touched upon in optional content); and, like the above pair, are only in optional content. They're also not really "loose threads", since that story was finished back in Heavensward, so they're not especially relevant anymore.

No, they absolutely did not tie up those story threads. We still don't know how exactly the Sixth Umbral Calamity happened and whether The Thirteenth and The Tenth have any connection, and whether voidsents played a part beyond general "destabilization". We don't know much about Mhachi culture beyond "they used voidsents". We know far less about Amdapor.

Those threads being locked behind optional content has not stopped SE from using those same characters and ideas in the MSQ. G'raha Tia himself is a prime example, before they made CT mandatory. And if they made CT mandatory, so too can they make Mhach and Warring Triad mandatory.

Fragmenting what's supposed to be a persistent world into a bunch of quarantined "OPTIONAL CONTENT" that refuses to ever interact with the rest of the story basically just creates a crappy anthology collection, rather than a cohesive story or an actual "world".

From a storytelling perspective, no one should be making excuses for this. It's utterly abysmal.

If you can't trust your player base not to throw a tantrum about needing to complete storylines, don't include meaningful storylines in optional content.

If you can't handle writing branching dialogue, don't include meaningful storylines in optional content.

If your billion dollar corporation doesn't have the resources to include optional scenes based on previous content completion in the Main Scenario of your game, don't include meaningful storylines in optional content.

If you can't find any way to include huge and topically-relevant ideas when they come up later in other storylines, stop trying to tell epic stories in content you insist on burying in a nuclear waste pit as soon as its final patch comes out — or at least stop trying to pretend that you're telling a story with any kind of continuity or weight.

Clunky Tumblr fan fictions handle immersion better than this supposedly professional writing team.

And, Shadowbringers proved that they're perfectly capable of doing better — when they want to, and when it involves digging up and resurrecting Ishikawa's personal projects and obsessive pet characters.

I cut them zero slack about this.

Nothing in particular about the Sixth Calamity is relevant to the Void, save that voidsent were involved, most notably Diabolos. Who was killed for good back in Dun Scaith. There is, quite frankly, no reason for that to be brought up now. Mhach hasn't been mentioned for the same reason; it simply has nothing to do with the current story. We might as well be wondering what the Lambs of Dalamud have been up to lately.

It's pretty hilarious that the two characters that should have the most vested interest in reclaiming their lost home get nothing but little snippets of dialogue because OmPtIoNaL cOmTeNt while also getting beaten in acquiring safe passage through the void by a blind catgirl that wants to reunite with her big tiddy Hrothgar husband lmao.
