How can we reopen the FF14 subreddit?

Please don't tell me you're going to suggest Novice Network because that shit is filled with useless mentors

Regardless, only 1% of people use third party apps, but more than 95% of people are lurkers, meaning they just the subreddit to get answers to question or look at a meme or two and now we do this blackout for the 1% and ruin the experience for the 95%.

Without those people who you apparently despise, what would lurkers have to even look at? It's the people who actively contribute that are what makes Reddit a useful source of information in the first place.

Reddit is hardly the only source of information on the game.

You want info on how to play your class? The Balance.
You want fishing timers or other related info? FF14 Angler.
Gathering timers? FFXIV Gathering
Crafting leveling guides? Icy Veins
MSQ guides? The FF14 Wiki
Glamour info? The Glamour Collection
Money making? UhhOlivia's blog is a godsend

All of these sites were found using a simple Google search and have been my main source of information for the past three years I've been in this game. I've maybe used Reddit a handful of times for really obscure searches like the JP theory with Atma gathering.

Hell, YouTube can replace all of the above since there's basically been a video on everything under the sun made.

It's not that we want to rely solely on Reddit; it's just that people use the most popular search engine, Google, to look up things about the game, and it will most certainly lead them to Reddit, the most popular discussion board for the game. I never said that Reddit is the only source of information, but it is a more familiar site, and a new player's first option would be to use a website that they know has high activity and information where it's easy to check how recent and up-to-date it is rather than taking a guess on a website that could have abandoned and outdated information.

I get it; this game has many resources scattered on many different websites, but many players still have no idea what any of the websites are, and I feel like it is a valid criticism that there are far too many. I don't care about Reddit, and if there was something else that had its niche, I would use that instead, which is why I said I dreamed of an FFXIV version of WoWhead, but I know we're just in a different era for that now.

Anyway, we were given workarounds to view old threads for now, which works for me. The community and guide writers made the subreddit successful, and they should be the ones who decide whether or not their information should be locked away, not the moderators.

I didn't want to say it but yeah...you'd have to intentionally scroll past those sites to find Reddit posts imo. Searching "ffxiv crafting leveling guide" brings up Gillionaire Girls, Icy Veins and Teamcraft before Reddit even shows up. I don't even see a Reddit link when searching for "ffxiv gathering timers". Same situation when searching "ffxiv msq quest guide".

Comes off more as wanting to get the info just from Reddit than just getting the information in general.

There was a donation link listed for the Trevor Project, given that it's pride month and the FFXIV community is overwhelmingly supportive of the queer community -- but there has been no request for personal donations that would ever have been in the hands of Reddit or the moderation team.

There is plenty of useful wikis for FFXIV. To be honest, r/ffxiv was not a big thing for a while...95% of this sub was based on artworks and moderator's ego.

/r/ffxivdiscussion/ is more relevant, it's how this forum was supposed to be.

I find it funny that the 2nd site (Lulu Tools) for your ocean fishing example presents the information more clearly/cleanly than the Reddit post does and provides timers.
