The English Forum Moderators need to step up...

This is me just venting my annoyance at a mixture of all the low-grade troll posts, the constant repeating of topics, the constant necrothreading long dead threads for no reason, and how the English forums seem to be ran overall. Not major annoyances, just a bunch of minor annoyances that are building up.

As the title says, I think the English Forum Moderators need to step it up.

Poor attempts at trolling and click-bait threads are becoming the norm versus actual discussion about the game or having actual fun not at the expense of someone else. The excuse is that "Oh, the OP must be a Titanmen clone!" but I think that's just giving all the wannabe trolls too much credit while also raising Titanmen to a weird trolling-boogieman, which their just as low quality and don't deserve the infamy. Especially some of the more recent "internet edgy/shock humor" threads. It's to the point that people are posting that they reported the thread for being rude, problematic, or trying to start a fight or political debate that has no reason to be on the forums, only for the thread to remain, not even locked.

I think another problem is all the repeating topics having multiple threads. I don't know if they still do it but the JP moderators use to condense threads, closing down new threads on a topic and moving the post(s) from that thread to the oldest thread on the subject. It would be nice if the English Mods herded all the discussion on a topic to one space. It would certainly help against the low-grade, necrothreading trolling problem.

I know this thread will get ignored by anyone who matters on the subject (this isn't the JP forums, after all) but I just wanted to air my grievances. :B

I agree that particular name gets too much infamy, but given the options of it being one recurring troll versus a parade of new trolls who each use the same posting style and each manage to find every past iteration of what we believe to be the same troll... unless the notoriety makes it that tempting to copycat instead of making their own reputation, I think it's likely to be the same person – and regardless of whether it is or not, the mods should be able to spot them a mile away.

Though beyond simply suspecting it, I believe in the past someone looked up several of the accounts and found them to be in the same FC. So if it's not one person then it's a coordinated effort.

Don't care if 'bumping' is against the rules or not because jfc. Moderate General Discussion please, or hire people that will. Hell I'll do it for free if it means I get to revoke posting privileges from those that clearly don't deserve them.

Maybe SE fired a lot of them, but 1-2 years ago mods were very active, I went away for 1 year and came back in May 2021, lots of troll threads and now the general discussion is full of hateful threads targeting a group that is already facing hate in the real world.

Mods needs to step up, if they keep spamming hateful threads ban their account. One less sub for SE, but good for the community.

Agreed. It should be an overall thing for most gaming communities in general. Several posts were trying to rile groups and create discrimination and attack groups and this isn't even just here unfortunately it's a very common issue in other communities that repeat it as well. A lot actually throw out that they're Republicans doing it and promoting their "politics" even though they have no idea what that word means and they need some education about what policy making is and what hate crimes are. lol.

However tbh if you were to go on Steam these could literally be cut and paste messages that troll general forum communities with the same harassment to those communities.

On the contrary moderation has gotten pretty bad on FFXIV. Back in HW it was extremely toxic and when a report for harassment was made GMs would reply back and talk to players in the game. It was a great system on removing the problems and bans for actions actually did occur to reduce how toxic it was. By StB the community got a lot more positive.

I'm lost why they never kept it going and for forums like this it can't be too hard to have people checking the posts to see and remove those problematic posts. Though I've never seen much of the effort put back into this game since 3.0 expansion though EW at least the content is trying to give us some new things instead not just recycled content.
