FFXI new expansion concerns

I found out from a friend who's still fully playing 11 that it is getting this new expansion and 2 new jobs. I am concerned that this will be a death nail in 14 2.0. I am not happy that after all this time 11 is getting a new expansion and 2 new jobs. What does this mean for 14? Will this new stuff for 11 compromise 14 in any way?

I don't think it will. 2.0 will more than likely be out before this new expansion, they are still very early on in the development process. With that in mind, if 2.0 succeeds in all the right ways, then people will either subscribe to both FFXIV, and FFXI, or just simply ignore FFXI in consideration that FFXIV is everything "new" that they need right now.

I don't think it's going to make too much of an impact.

I think it's an attempt to get people to subscribe to both, I'm sure we'll hear about another discount for subscribing to both sometime between 2.0 release and the release of the new FFXI expansion.

FF11's got about 300k subscribers and earns SE about 50 million dollars a year.

@OP the funny thing is, that the peeps over in the XI forums think that XIV is getting the royal treatment just because it's a newer game. The argument you made goes both ways as far as this discussion goes. Also, XIV has more development staff than XI, and lastly isn't version 2.0 kind of considered a free expansion for us?

Aah, I stopped reading the ffxi forums when I pretty much stopped playing it. Just heard ppl complain 11 was getting too easy with the way you can get a capped job there now. Even heard the theory they were doing that to get ppl through the content asap because they were going to push 14 and kill 11 in a few years at the most. I can see it going both ways. Abyssea was what killed 11 for most so they were happy to try 14 out. Most ppl I knew from 11 who left it was because of Abyssea. I was just voicing my concerns and concerns I've seen voiced in ls chatter.

^this 100% abyssea is the reason me and my wife quit 11 after 8+yrs along with everyone we knew lol.this is just a marketing scam to get ppl to come back. doesn't really matter to them which game you pick they get the same sub fee from you either way.
I'm not gonna lie to you the new land (outside screenshots) got me interested and i might go back for a month to explore it. The city looked horrible though it's like they are trying to make another WG but its really ugly and looked bare. they concept art of the river city was nice though. Just hope that video was a rough look at the new city. Mainly would go back because i miss my Blu ; ;. only Chance this expansion has is if they add New Endgame events like sea/dynamis/sky in the new land.
