Thanks everyone, I really really appreciate all the ideas!! I didn't end up winning the plot, but I already have a medium that I didn't know how to decorate so I'll be adding some of his flair to it! In addition, I used a retainer fantasia so that, in a way, we can share a house again. Part of me feels weird, but my FC mates have all been very helpful reminding me that everyone grieves different.

It would really be wonderful if SQuenix could figure something out in the future. It sucks that a company that constantly goes on about caring for their players is still just a company in the end. It's a cruel reminder that everything will stay the same no matter what happens.

I've been thinking for a while that it would be nice to customize and name our vendor NPCs, and be able to pose them a bit the way we can the outdoor retainers. In this way we could model them after friends and pretend they "live" in our homes.

Can you imagine the infinite ways in which someone looking to grief/mock/harass another player would use this?

While it sucks that people can't just live and let live, unfortunately, there are those that thrive on being assholes ruining stuff for the masses.

Yeah...this is the one way they should allow a player to player transfer of a house. Designate someone the house goes to if you permanently close your account. Account is gone forever. That's the condition to give your house to someone.

Did they happen to have an apartment or fc room? The apartments are forever and an fc room will stay as long as they don't get kicked and the fc remains housed (using the move feature will retain the rooms). If not, perhaps if someone had space for an alt, they could level it up and purchase either/or, decorate it to the departed's taste and leave a guestbook for people to sign & leave memories?

I wholeheartedly agree. I know that this would be a way for bad-faith players to sell houses, but it just seems like there are other restrictions they could make on it. I don't know, just feels messed up. I'm gonna go ahead and deco my own medium in his image. Maybe not exactly because it was even more maximalist that even *I* like, but it'll be nice to take some inspo.

RMTs would snatch houses and sell the house for gil and it would essentially allow people to buy private homes on the exterior market.

My condolances for your loss; but when people are gone we cannot just turn the housing wards into constant monuments to them - lots of people die and lose loved ones that play FF. If anything I would like maybe a graveyard if that came to it.

1. How are you going to verify the deceased? You going to send SE a death certificate? So - Person gets private...stops playing and decides to sell the house; they offer to "die" in exchange for real money - transferring private to the "kin". Reality says the effort required to prevent that from being the case is likely not something SE wants to engage with.

That is a way to verify yes, seems fair to me especially if you want it to be a "memory of the past"

I don't think you understand the significance of being required to show proof of death to SE; nor what SE would have to go through to verify actual authenticity. I did not imply is it a "massive" thing - only that you would be overtime only reduce what some believe is a already scarce supply of housing. I've already presented you with a way to provide a current persistent memorial for the deceased for your loved ones that is not a detriment to others. A situation arose and I was offering a solution that does not create another problem for multiple parties.

Otherwise...imagine if all the larges in wards were memorials?
