There are a lot of times I get to guard people upto 40%! only for them to get downed in no time (what seems like through the guard). Pretty sad that considering it's a job defining ability (don't understand paladins who wants to get rid of this) with 30 sec cd.

The question is: Is it server tick thing most of the time? Or are there many cheesy abilities which can kill through the guard? Something like ninja, can he, he always can, can't he?
It's not lag nor ticks, it's damage snapshotting when people press the button, as simple as it is. And since damage resolution happens with certain hardcoded animation delays that can extend to several seconds for some LBs, then even if you guard, or in the case of PLD, Guardian somebody, they might still die from previous stuff that still has to resolve but has snapshot earlier.

On top of it Guardian also has a small deployment delay...
