If they keep the schedule of releasing expansions in march, 2.0 will have only 3 months to prevent mass migration to FFXI since a large part of XIV playerbase is XI veteran.

I'm already 500% hyped with this expansion...and we're still missing the 2nd job that might be shown tomorrow! @_@
ffxi will be busy for all of two weeks, then people will be done the first one third of the quests released for the expansion, and their going to say to themselves, oh yeah this is why i left..

only three more months for the next mission

Im looking forward to it, however combat will still be terrible unless you're war sam whm blm (and maybe the new jobs till nerfs hit). And yah a storyline every 2-3 years will kill it for me.

Oh also its not like you have to marry a game, play one for a month or two harder than the other then switch back.

As a former XI player i can't say this has me too interested. While new expansions are always exciting, IMO Treasures of Aht Urghan was the last GOOD expansion. Wings of The Goddess was a Boxed expansion with Campaign on it. That was it for like 6 months, even then it took over a year to get the story out. The 3 mini expansions played out more like fanfictions rather than canon story arcs. Abyssea had potential that completely eliminated some of the base gameplay that made FFXI great (i.e parties). What really killed the experience for me, was that with so many story hooks left by ToAU and WOTG about the expanded world (The Far East, The Western continent, the Mithran Homeland) We got 4 expansions in a row that had NOTHING to do with any of that.

I think that adding Geomancer is cool, but it won't be the same because no one is going to learn the ins and outs of the job like in the old days. People are gonna plop a Geomancer in Abyssea and power level it to 99. 2 Weeks will be spent on data mining before the "accepted" way to play it will be posted up, and it'll probably being the new loldrg/lolpup.

Sorry to rant. Some my best gaming experiences ever were on XI. It's why I'm a XIV player now. But the time to let it go has been well past due. I'm looking forward to 2.0, and the possible new jobs, races, areas and experiences it's about to bring.

P.S: Geomancer WOULD make since in XIV due to the positional battle system. But I'd take XI's Dancer over Geomancer any day. Also, Aren't we supposed to be getting Musketeer?

Well it's not that they are worried about XIV tanking with 2.0. There is very little chance of that, and I think they know this.

It is simply that all of the money they invested into developing XIV version 1.0 was pretty much a complete waste. They are now having to re-develop this game almost entirely, for which the cost would be huge. Taking that into consideration they aren't really making money off XIV at this point.

XI is their money maker, so naturally they are going to want to keep it going longer now, since the money they are taking in from XIV subscriptions at this point would be basically just funding the development of 2.0.

All in all, I think it's great though. It makes sense for them to do this from a business standpoint, and also it is great to see them revitalize XI for all of the fans still playing, and even for new MMO players looking for somewhere to go.

Very true...theu could show a lot there...they could show anything...but they prefered not showing a thing. :/

    I guess they think 2 artworks from Yoshitaka Amano are more appealing than gameplay... ; ;

Luckly we have more Vanafest tonight for the extra info the trailer never had! ^^

Which is very different from facing a specific direction when casting stuff. That sort of thing doesn't play well with having to move around to avoid things, which I hope we continue to get more of as the game grows and ages. I may concede if the developers are planning to add strafing, but even then I'd have a hard time seeing it be useful. It just sounds like a horrible gimmick.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

I was excited about this expansion until I remembered that Abyssea still exists. Unless some of these zones allow for leveling to 99 in a traditional manner, I just couldn't care any less about playing this expansion. That said, I'm excited that they're still willing to support this game with another expansion, no one saw this coming.

People keep bashing FFXI but the funny part is the combat is still more responsive then FFXIV is in its current state.

I just recently got back into FFXI and I figured I would hate it with all the changes over the past couple years... While I do sort of miss the old game, it's still just as addicting as I remember. That video was pretty cheesy and makes the game look even more dated than it actually is, but I'm pretty excited about this
