They're slowly phasing it out, It's PS2 in Japan, but dropped for NA/EU, where it's mostly JP playerbase who still use their PS2 because indie devs and Visual Novels are still releasing on it.
Also Geomancer basically plays as a directional based Mage and ability to set Buff spheres around the battlefield/party.
I really don't see how an expansion to a 10-year old game could somehow be more exciting than what 2.0 is looking to be, no matter how much love you had for XI.
XI still has a alot more content than XIV has right now 1.. so when XI gets an Expansion to what it already has.. it just makes to more appealing as a whole.
Let's see:
-More content to an already overflowing amount of content.
-New jobs (XIV still has yet to even release new ones that weren't an extension of old.)
-New storyline and exploration of an already large world.
2.0 is an overhaul, XI's new expansion is an extension to the world and lore. The only excitement for 2.0 is that it'll finally (hopefully) fix what's wrong with the game. People will be equally excited when they release an expansion to XIV too.
Unless XIV does some amazing things by May 2013..XI is going to be the better choice for content, since 2.0 is merely an overhaul in the long run up until we see their update pattern.
