What happened to the Community Reps and Moderators on here?

I'm not sure how is the state of the JP version, but with so many trolls going unchecked, we probably should just accept that the NA forums is just there left to live without moderation and not being taken seriously by the company.

No wonder why it's probably the most antiquated forum system out there. It lacks most basic features that are used nowadays, like a feed that shows likes/replies at a corner of the screen, or a faster engine.

Honestly, if you want to have more insightful discussions, you'll do much better of the r/ffxivdiscussion/.

But again, that could also be solved with the moderators actually stopping those specific threads in their tracks – ideally when first posted, and certainly once they've been bumped for no good purpose besides reawakening the argument. It's not hard to see what's going on with them.

That requires the almost non-existent moderators to do their actual jobs though. With how wild west the forums are these days, they are part-part-part-part time. As in MAYBE an hour or two bi-weekly.

They remove pages and threads occasionally. They just silently watch. Any communication from them would just get argued to death anyways. Best thing they can do is stay silent.

At the very least they don't suspend accounts for a month for talking about catgirls like another certain failing mmo that once was king.

I will second this. Seen a lot of necros over the last week and it getting annoying.

Someone probably got off of their suspension, created an alt and just kept doing what they do.

probably costs too much money to hire more reps. Money is getting tighter and tighter if you haven't noticed.

I don't know about that. There's so many of them on twitter doing seemingly nothing besides whatever they want to do in-game and streaming the game sometimes. The official SE account interacts with a few of them so I know those are legitimate.

I've spent a lot of time on well and actively moderated forums in the past, so seeing just how laissez faire the moderation on this forum is was kinda shocking.

So far as I can see, they'll only intervene for blatantly, un-ignorable rule breaking behaviour, or if they have to deal with a report.
Otherwise, it's anything goes.

Anything goes unless it's about Otters or the derailment police getting their knickers in a twist (who tend to be the trolls) or just acknowledging that they went and moderated something. Then there's the lack of consistency. As a post or a thread can be filled with all sorts of flammable crap and stay up yet a similar post that doesn't have as much or any is the one that gets an orbital strike. Heck they delete stuff more often than they lock a thread.

I wouldn't say that reddit would be a better place for discussions about the game.

Ban happy, power tripping reddit moderators don't often allow for productive discussion of certain topics they personally disagree with. Everything on reddit tends to be mindlessly upvoted. This creates an echo chamber where only certain viewpoints are validated, and any dissenting views are deleted, or downvoted to obscurity.

That's why I won't go anywhere near r/FFXIV. Your best bet is to go to r/ffxivdiscussion to talk about any complaints that you might have with the game.
