    Suggestion: Materia rescrambler

Currently, many players are inundated with lots of materia (from spiritbonding) that they have no use for, and that there is no market demand for (e.g. Water Veil, Chocobo Down).

I propose that an NPC be introduced into the game that can "rescramble" materia into a new random materia. Initially, I was thinking of a system such as the following (I'm not married to the exact values):

    - trade in 2 tier I materia for a random tier II
    - trade in 3 tier II materia for a random tier III
    - trade in 4 tier III or tier IV materia for a random tier IV

This system would accomplish three things, I believe:

    1) allow (and encourage) players to empty their retainer inventory of stockpiled marginal materia
    2) give players something to do with unwanted materia besides NPCing them for pennies
    3) create an extra sense of excitement from the chance of rolling a more desirable type of materia (as opposed to the monotony of simply NPCing unwanted materia)

I realize that there can be some concern about shortages of desirable materia due to rescrambling. While you can tweak the exact ratios of materia exchange to combat this, I don't see it as a big concern; financially, if you are currently holding a tier III that has a substantial market value, it doesn't make sense to destroy it (along with 3 other tier IIIs) for a low percentage chance at a desirable tier IV.

I welcome any input on this suggestion.

I fully support this idea. Or implement some type of bag or npc storage system that reduces the amount of materia taking up your inventory/retainer space.

Setup a system such as said example:
    - You talk to the storage npc/type of materia you're interested in from your menu.
    - You choose which type of materia you're interested in (mnd, str, attack, etc.).
    - You then get another option as to which level of materia you want to withdraw/deposit (I, II, III, IV).
    - At this point you'd get another option as per the quantity of that specific materia you're wanting to withdraw/deposit.

Maybe toss this option into the "dressers" of your inn room/mog house. Who know's.

Just a thought. Could be handy, could be terrible.

I don't think they'd do it to allow you to increase the tier of Materia. It would make it too easy to get high level materia.

It would be nice to have something to do with them though. I have way too much at the moment, is there nothing I can do with all my level 1 materia except sell it for 36 gil?

Can't you add it to gear and use it to get Hamlet Defense points?

I don't think that would be an issue. Even with the trade values I initially suggested, you would have to trade in 24 tier I materia to create 1 random tier IV materia.

Additionally, you should keep in mind that as the game stands today, a LV1 character can equip a L45 Dated Tarred Voyager's Belt, a pair of L48 Mahogany Pattens, a pair of L50 Dated Mythril Wristlets (or any number of other Optimal Rank gear) and spiritbond/convert them into high-level materia. It would be much faster and easier to convert one Felt Gown than it would be to convert 24 low-level items for trade-in.

We can indeed give stuff with materia to hamlet, but it's actually useless.
I got 2 anima and 54 pts for an equipment lv45 with a materia IV.

    Yes, 54.
