ESO DUngeons are less repeatable. Once you have the items you want from them you have no reason to go. Some dungeons don't even have items you want at all (most of them really given only a few sets are even used in that game).
I think WoW technically has a lot of content for the sake of retention. Especially for the hardcore raider, but also for the casual player.
Only one problem, the fun wears out very quickly. As much as I love the activities in that game, I'm actually starting to feel burned out even when I just log in for a few hours. A lot of the stuff just feels pointless, especially for a casual like me who's endgame is just getting to LFR.
Actually started to go back and just do art now, since Im currently just focusing on upgrading my 3 character's ilvs in FFXIV to a personal arbitrary number (ilv.625 to be specific).
I feel that people who complain about lack of retention in MMOs, are:
A. Have waaay too much time on their hands
B. Have a hard time seeking something else to do which is sad.
I think I'm actually gonna lean back on my previous statements about the lack of meaningful retention content this game lacks. Sure we want activities, but I think in this day and age where we're ALL adults hopefully, with jobs, responsibilities and the fact that there's just so many other games out there to play....I think the old school thought of sticking to just one game and demanding it retains you is pretty much a terrible thing at the end of the day. I'm saying this because I'm actually starting to feel it, and I know I'm not the only one, nor was I ever the first one. Its easy to forget the lessons we learned from past MMOs when you have it so gosh dang easy with a game that has a short and clear "end" to its content.
I am struggling to comprehend how not rushing = rank 15 island in 8 days. I am only rank 13, and that is with the exp bonuses of finishing the available quests, upgrading 3 buildings so far, and keeping my workshop maxed out. Pretty sure there was some pretty hefty grind my face to the wheel farming going on there. Otherwise, tell me your secrets lol.
It's called Exp Explosion. 2 Weeks before Patch you order your Workshop to do stuff for the next 2 weeks and then you leave that Workshop alone, till after the Patch. That gives a whole Level + some exp. Then Upgrade your Buildings + Quests gives a lot Exp too. The rest is normal Crafting Food / Restrains / Farming (I did that 1-2 Hours max. since last Patch). With Level 15 you get a 4th Workshop + you can upgrade all other Buildings and do the Quests after that you are by Level 15 3/4 and nearly done, just get the last Exp from your Workshops. So I was maybe 3,5 Hours on my Island since the last Patch. 2 Hours Farming and Crafting + 1 Hour Dekorating and some afk time there.I am struggling to comprehend how not rushing = rank 15 island in 8 days. Someone call the Forum Police! Because I wrote passive aggressively that DT looks not good. Oh how right I was!
The only way someone would ve near capped/Capped in Island Sanctuary..,
is if they partook in the EXPlosion, and manually grinded a few levels/exp/resources.
Which is far from casual(in the sense of/akin to setting alarms to be up at server up/LL-Stream Start is for the Heavily Invested.)
Agreed only on the idea that for sure it just doesn't seem enough for a number of players in here, as it likely does for those who forget to remind themselves the reasons for all the wait for content, or their lack thereof.
savage came out yday wym- MSQ done
- Pandemonium done
- New Dungeon done
- New Trial done
- Island Sanctuary Level 15,5, all Buildings Upgraded + all Quests done
- New Craftable Gear 4 Jobs done, Materials for the last 3 Gears already farmed
- Frontline Series Level 11
This is way to less content for 4 Months, in 2 Months we get for Blue Mages some new Spells + 10 Levels, Manderville Weapon upgrade and that's all for the next 4 Months?
I swear if 7.0 brings not a fat chunk of Story + more Content then I will be sad and mad. Even WoW has more content right now.
Bored? Okay, go make a brand new character. That should keep you busy for the next half year or so.
It certainly has for me. Try juggling endgame on 3 different alts. Just gearing them up alone already has me in circles.
And I only did it because I wanted to play other races without fantasia
Youd actually be surprised at the amount of decorating people do to their apartments. And now with outdoor furnishing being usable by those even lacking houses its a step in the right direction. But Housing is just one thing in this game.Analogy isn't perfect, but the feeling is all the same to me tbh.
You have a point with WoW - It's easier to make your own fun over there, unless it has to do with housing. So where WoW allows more engaging self-made content, XIV provides avenue for environmental self-made content. I wish we had both..
So the problem with XIV locking housing out from people with FOMO, makes it even worse. If everyone had the ability to have a full house, or their own island instance with inside/outside furnishing + garden.. We'd be in a better place.
Watching the Savage World Race, they were talking with a WoW player about the type of content WoW players make for themselves, and how they can be competitive in their own way, like dungeon running. But admitted that things like that are basically impossible with XIV. The best we can do is maybe POTD races, and of course Savage / Ultimate.
Did you know that theres a dedicated group of people that run weekly/daily Eureka/Bozja raid runs? They even come up with different ways to do the content with their "meme" runs. Its actually surprising how theres people that care about that old content.
So to say that FFXIV lacks it, is a bit disingenous. Im not saying we dont need more content but to a lot of people it seems like they feel fine with staying subbed. Im normally seeing only the loud announcing their disenjoyment because they failed to find something else to do in the game. And thats fine but I dont think thats the game's problem. At least not fully.
The game is still going to be here whether they like it or not.
I don't think it's disingenuous, you tell a sprout they gotta beat Endwalker before they can even use their outside furniture. We're going in the right direction, but we have to be honest - It's still FOMO.
