The design is just as linear now as it was when I first started playing just before HW launch.

Perhaps you feel funneled into certain paths don't won't allow you to make your own fun. I don't feel the same way. I can pick or choose things to do that are fun for me and don't feel like I'm losing out on anything (other than a couple of housing furnishings that come from PvP, which I won't do).

This game no more sucks at making lasting content than any other major MMO. It's the nature of the genre. There's always some disadvantage in going to back to play low level content compared to content intended for your character's level.

Content is long lasting when you enjoy it. When you finish content you do for the rewards you need/want, the other content is always to do for simple enjoyment's sake.

You might feel like Endwalker is a net loss, but that's your opinion when it comes to what you want for you. Others disagree. They're still enjoying the game. As long as enough players are enjoying the game enough to pay their monthly subscription fee, SE is not going to make any major deviations to their game design.

If you want a game where you can truly make your own fun, you need to find a sandbox MMO. That is not this game. This game is a theme park. There's a lot to choose from but anything repeated too many times will get stale eventually. You've definitely hit your eventually.

You're just as guilty of making the same tired arguments.

As for excuses, they're not excuses. They're simply the way things are for this game. Either accept that this is the way things will be or don't.

Your complaints have been heard but unless SE gets those same complaints from enough other players, nothing will come from them other than you continuing to sink yourself into a well of negativity instead of moving on and focusing on those games you do enjoy.

Has somebody here even played GW2? Someone? Anyone? Do people think it's not "major MMO"? It has 100K+ active players around the clock.

You definitely can make low level content that can not only be done by max level players, but can even be used as farm by high level player. If you do level 10 event (equivalent to FFXIV'S FATEs, but much better), you get level 10 loot, but also level 80 loot.

Because game is horizontal, most of the content is alive. Vale Guardian, the very first raid boss that released back in 2015, is still ran today, since you get similar rewards and there is no vertical gearing. Instances do merge into each other, which means that during the day there will be 10 populated maps for example, but during night, there will be just 1-2 maps, but just as populated as they were during the day. You do have reasons to go to the old maps, even if it's for few minutes to do quick daily.

FFXIV doesn't do that, it's fully vertical and that's completely fine, but that means it must constantly pump enough of current content. If not, there is simply nothing to do. Arguing that you can do X years old content is terrible since all of this content has either bad rewards, has syncing problems (no shot I'm playing PLD in Eureka, I don't even have a gap closer at 70) or is dead and not run by other players, at least not in the same capacity like it did when it was current. And if you ran in while it was current, you have no reason to run it again.

Just don't finish EO, you'll be able to use it as an argument in 5 years as still having content to do.
Different interests in content for different people. Im telling you now as somebody who enjoys playing Dragonflight, I have not done everything the game has to offer and already got my fill with the content that did. It didnt last for long but am I complaining for its lack of content? No, same can be said for veterans who play games on maitenance mode like FFXI, literally have nothing substantial to retain themselves besides repeating the same old stuff, are they complaining about lack of retention?

Face what, did you already forget the context of my posts? lol

You even replied to a post I just made discussing the problem. It's not the different interests. It's the quality and longevity of the replaced interests for those that enjoy that content. Nothing has staying power.

I actually enjoyed Variant and Island Sanctuary for the few hours I had with them. But they're mostly solo experiences and extremely quick ones at that.

So if you like Variant? Well that sucks, because you probably finish it in an afternoon. But if you liked Bozja? You got loads of content and group activity.

That's the main difference, and people don't really understand that. They just say "Well I didn't like that content". Nobody should be out here saying "Good, I'm glad it's gone. I hated it" - Because there's always going to be someone hating on something regardless, and if the content is replaced by something that isn't even 1/10th the longevity, then it's a net loss for all of us.

Otherwise it's a net loss for all of us.

That's what Endwalker is right now. A Net loss when you consider how community fluctuates and will tend to flow through different forms of content in an engaging and cooperative manner for the expansion cycle. That doesn't really exist in Endwalker. It's all extremely quick, and solo oriented systems. We're an economy of cooperative engagement, and when there's no reason for players to interact with each other, and all experiences are quick and solo - Then we fail as that economy.

Tbf, the development team doesn't even fully mimic the fate idea properly which they got from Rift Online (GW2 got many of their ideas from that game as well since it was released before it and did many of the same things). The full idea was to allow people rewards even if they left the area, so they could still receive something when it concluded without them present.
