6.4 MacOS low FPS Help

I use an imac (OS Big Sur 10.7.7) and before the 6.4 patch, had no problems with my game. However, ever since, the game is so laggy that it's almost impossible to play. I can still log in, but the FPS is at like 6. I have a ps4 so it's not as if I can't play at all, but much prefer playing on desktop.

I would love some advice or solutions please!

Big Sur is prehistoric at this point. FFXIV's Mac wrapper likely got updated with this patch as part of the changes to better support Apple silicon and as such it's probably targeting a newer OS release than what you're running.

If you're running a 2014 iMac and unable to update, about the only option you have is to try xivonmac and see if that performs better for you. Otherwise be sure to check your settings and make sure things like MSAO are turned off in the game settings, if in doubt toggle to laptop high and see if that helps.

I have the same trouble. Before patch6.4 i was playing fine, since then I can log in but it's extremely laggy and often the screen will turn black.
I can still hear the sound and even do some actions, i just lose the screen, at least it kind of stop lagging, i just can't see nothing. I teleport to my house, quit, but then i have to force quit since the game doesn't completly quit.

it happens anywhere there are a lot of players or lot of graphics. I have turned down all my graphics already.

My wife doesn't have trouble playing on the ps4.......

So I ran into the same problem with my 2013 macbook pro, turns out older macs are no longer compatible. I tried every possible fix, but to no avail. These older models are just too old now. I retired my mac and bought a brand new laptop…

I’m sorry but I think every Mac older than 2019 might not run the game very well, especially 2015 and older models.

Any Mac that has to use an Intel GPU is going to struggle, no matter how old/new it is. This is partly because Intel iGPUS don't implement most of the features needed for the double conversion layer that is DirectX to Vulkan to Metal (dxvk running on top of moltenvk), and partly because Apple's Intel Graphics drivers are....not great.

Intel Macs that have a decent AMD GPU in them should still run fine and are where you can get the best performance in general, although Apple Silicon has shown itself to be pretty good. The recent changes in FFXIV as of patch 6.4 included a new Wine/CrossOver wrapper, which updated the base with better Apple Silicon support.
