Howdy ho,
I play a lot of PvP and RPR is basically my main, looking to go into the regional championship with it. It's a really fun class to play and I love playing it. The recent changes though have made it feel kinda weird.
It's been mentioned before, but the changes to Soul Reaver feels really odd. I put in a lot of hours to RPR's rotation and one of the most fun things about it was this constant level of pressure you could put on single targets. In the same vein that MNK could terrify any Healer or Ranged, RPR was sort of a safer option, with a bit more kit to make it different. Yet now, with the loss of the 8k potency from the Gallows, as well as the loss of the GCD, it feels a bit weird to run the rotation.
Considering the number of counters that can come up when a Reaper puts out a Death Warrant on a target, it made sense that it would have a higher return if the Reaper got it right. If the Reaper played the rotation correctly, you could have a really high return number on that Death Warrant, while also maintaining pressure immediately afterwards when you entered the filler. Especially if you added in the LB, it was a terrifying thing to deal with.
I think the idea of giving RPR more AoE potential is a solid one, as DRG in general can run circles around it in terms of it's AoE potential. However, with just the one Guillotine, in the parts of the filler rotation, it feels substantially weaker. I've only ever noticed a significant amount of damage potential with the Grim Swathe > Guillotine whenever LB comes up, and while that is frequent, it isn't enough to boost the numbers to where a DRG could, especially since DRG can just use their LB and potentially wipe the entire group.
If we could at least get that extra Soul Reaver back with the additional Guillotine, I think that would fix a lot of the problems RPR was experiencing at the current moment. Even if it was to revert back to where it was, it could still be a pretty decent option for single target combat, as well as the utility of Tenebrae Lemurum. The changes have really taken a decent part of the flow that RPR had and it's a little disappointing, even though it's not the worst thing.
