What are your thoughts on XIV content creation?

90% of it is all trash and a complete waste of time. They are mostly nails on chalkboard because they fail at trying to be comedians, using far too many cliché topics and stereotypes that have been beaten to death. Some insert themselves far past the line, and bring so much of their personal lives into it that it makes you wonder what the channel is actually about. Even bigger channels such as Mr. Happy and Speakers of Hydaelyn, which are among the 10% that are not trash still suffer from the self insertion which needs to be kept to a minimum unless you, yourself are the content.

There are some rare gems out there though. This right here is one of them:

These are mostly lore based videos. Especially the older ones. He doesn't get a ton of views but his effort is most certainly appreciable. I believe his content creation remains unique because his channel is so small, but his heart is massive. From my own experience, this combination leads to the best outcomes in many facets in life. Mom and Pop shops, hole in the wall cafes, dusty novels in the library, middle class people, this list goes on and on. Diamonds are found in the rough.

I watched a couple of mistek (sp?) dungeon guide videos, and a couple of solo extreme guides but that's it. Oh, this one guy does rotation building guides for jobs, he's pretty straight forward and doesn't try to be funny.

There's nothing I find really interesting :/ Video guides for ex+ are nice, but a lot of times I can skim through the wiki and learn the mechanics faster that way. A lot of non-guide stuff for ffxiv is just click bait attempts at being funny or memeing. Some of it is actually funny but that's usually the stuff that actually sticks to in-game jokes, rather than the stuff where they just use the game as a imvu sim to have their characters do skits from other stuff.

They're all terrible for the most part. Especially guide makers. Ever since the guide form moved from written to video they've gotten so much worse. People NEED to have their guides out ASAP because it generates them money. Which gets us terrible half-assed strats that don't work well.

Someone told me that during the HW time period that MTQ apparently put a bunch of wrong info in her guides for Alexander savage just so she could get our her guides out first. I don't know if the videos are still up or not but someone said you could see things like a cast bar for certain attacks while her voice over said it didn't exist(but she was using other people's footage so she didn't know).

Was talking with some friends about it and was just wondering what's the general thought on XIV content outside the game, in terms of you know, videos and stuff, main argument from friend's side that outside MSQ is basically non existent and just not even worth the watch even then

Completely false. There are raid content creators and people who make content about new content and stuff.

Thought about making videos at one point but one challenge is getting niche'd, can't leave your own blackhole without a lot of loss. Had a forest YouTube channel, forest side did alright- (for a small YouTuber 6k subscribers and a video that broke a million), other games did awful though lol.

Point being here is if you don't want to play the numbers then it's fine but if you did, FFXIV is old and you'll be attached at the hip for a while at least.

In terms of content it'll mostly be guides too unless you have a high skill group (which you should think twitch). If you have fantastic humor you can do that, but you might get niche'd even harder until you get critical mass (and if you're not as funny as you thought.... well... lol).

If Yoshi-P is making another mmo I have a wonder if the PvP scene won't be a bigger focus and combat more action.. due to some comments and predilection. Which I would all be for, to be honest. Then you'd have a lot more content space, PvP isn't too hyped here (though personally it's probably one of my more favorite contents at this point).

There's that, the infamous Mr happy Garuda ex guide where he basically screwed over melee by saying don't bring them, they cant survive.

So wanted to ask, what's the general concern or thoughts on XIV content creation and/or creators

Content creators do what they want. There are several different areas of the game covered by content creators if you do a search by the content type instead of just looking at recommended videos. The plethora of MSQ reaction videos is because that is what viewers are most interested in watching and so those trying to get an income from content creation are going to default to those. But there are content creators out there that cover housing, crafting/gathering, gil-making (outside of crafting/gathering), PvP, raiding, etc.

If there are parts of the game that your friend feels should be covered but aren't, then perhaps your friend should become a content creator to cover them.

I just wish they'd update the guides as strats change. It sucks doing runs with outdated strats when better exists because that's "the happy strat". Guide makers need to be more aware of the influence their videos bring.
