Why is the playerbase so mentally fragile now

I think a big part of why threads like these get going is people are looking for any excuse to vent their issues. They KNOW the thread is a troll, but who cares if it lets them say what they want to say? I've said it before though, a single moderator that spent 10 hours a week on these forums could wreck titanmen's alt career very quickly, and would shut down 90% of the troll threads in this forum instantly.

You are right, it doesn't matter what the topic is people will reply just to reply and it doesn't take much to derail the initial idea, not that it matters in most threads like these anyway...

As I say in many other threads, They over moderate chat, and swearing in a game with literal chat filters is enough for them to hand out account warnings and temp bans all willy nilly. But anything that requires investigation? You can bet they don't care whatsoever about that.

Just need to point out, when you agree to the ToS, you straight up agree that you will not swear in-game. The chat filter is there so that people who do break the rules they agreed to won't potentially expose others (probably minors in particular) to the language they're using. But you still explicitly agree to the terms that say swearing is a no-go.

Also, for the record, I've been in plenty of DF dungeons where people are plenty sociable and we carry on a conversation throughout the run. Speech isn't "heavily restricted" - just don't be a jerk. It's not that hard.

You can swear, while not being toxic, or being a jerk. The extreme over moderation of swearing isn't necessary. A 13 year old is not going to become mentally scarred by seeing **** in chat.

All of it is against the ToS if not tolerated by the other side. Someone can report you for offensive jokes, ERP in public chats, "sex ads" and ofc inappropriate language or harassment.

It's kinda silly that you want to paint it like SE allows public NSFW interactions ingame, this is not the case. It is just private, which is not against the ToS. Or it doesn't get reported.

They could just be trying to avoid conflict. When I was a sprout I wouldn't have bothered sticking up for myself either. And generally when I make a big mistake, I'd almost rather outright leave the dungeon than even risk dealing with someone flipping out at me.

I only had three people that ever started to flip out on me over stupid BS. Yes, I was a new player at the time. No, I had never been in that instance before, in each case. And it wasn't extreme or savage or anything, was normal. I put them on ignore, and left them that way. If I want to deal with that kind of crap in normal content, I can go revisit WoW. I'm not putting up with it here.

EDIT: To be sure, I'll take *actual advice* said in a friendly manner. But if you're a dick about it, you'll be perma-ignored. I don't have time for that. I don't take that kind of crap at work, where they pay me, and I'm sure not going to do it here.

"Can't criticize the game" (The forums are full of criticism so that's a lie. UNLESS however youre saying you cant criticize without pushback and to that I say, welcome to the real world where your problems with something arent everyones.)
"Can't criticize the players" (Funny I don't have issues with this at all. As a mentor I generally point out faults/ mess ups if we're having issues on content and people take it very well. Maybe just don't be a dick?)
"No official parse" (Blame the toxic people who would/still do use parses to crap on other players. I see people complaining about parses in NORMAL content so yeah...no)
"Can't comment of someone's dps or you get banned" (Considering much of this game doesn't require everyone be tip top you generally don't need to be saying anything to anyone. TECHNICALLY you shouldnt even know someone else's damage output so you're already in the wrong just off that)

Also that last part is jokes. Yes you can be banned for breaking rules and also yes Bots get banned all the time. Let's not bs here and act like Bots just get to roam free all the time with zero push back (we aren't misrepresenting things yet again to "prove" a point are we?)

So everyone that doesn't have an issue with certain things and expresses that is a squealing paypig? Yet regardless if me or you is happy with the game...we're BOTH paying at the end of the day. So who really is the paypig? The person paying for a game they enjoy or the person paying for a game they don't?

Let's take it a step further with your logic. If you guy's criticism is being stamped out by so called "squealing paypigs" how weak does that make you and your point look? You lack the basic ability to apply nuance xD
And also to the original point you still very much CAN criticize the game. The forums are proof of this. If you want to be able to do that and have an Echo chamber with zero pushback from "squealing paypigs" band together and make a subreddit or something.
