They let people screw themselves out of opportunities all the time in FFXI. If people want to complain about hand-holding and "every player has every item," why do they just assume that they'd coddle you if you already traded it in? It sounds like the kind of thing most people are asking for, to some degree. Not this exactly, but at least the sentiment.

Of course, the coin might just be to prevent you from going over-cap at quest completion...
Sure, it might just be to teach people that the black market NPCs exist...

But if you traded it in, you traded it in. They never said it would or would not be for anything else -- and it sure doesn't fit with the honorable grand company lore that you're double dipping for profit by giving unauthorized items to the street market. I wouldn't be the least bit upset if it was unobtainable afterwards. Nobody made anyone trade it; it was a choice and people either acted on basic assumption or with caution.

Well two things to say to this. 1. XI and XIV are very diffirent in these kinds of situations. I believe that's what people who you refer to in your second point complain about which leads me into... 2. I don't believe a lot of people are asking for this. The people who are asking for this are specificaly the people who have plenty of seals and/or are simply saving their coin, bc everyone wants something no one else has, but no one wants to not be able to get something someone else has.

I don't believe it's to save you from wasting your seals on accidently going over the limit. What I feel seems fairly obvious is that the huge 25k seals for the promotion is more of a "check" to say "you gotta earn this before we promote you. We won't keep them, but we have to see you've earned them." Basically to buy time between the NCO and officer ranks without people saying AWWW WTF like they did when they first saw the 25k reqirement.

Oh I'm sure if this happens it will cost more than originally. I don't think it was the original intention but I do think it's a possibility bc of this thread. What I DON'T think is that the coin will be for something worthwhile and SE will tell everyone who traded it in "too bad. Shouldn't be such a casual gamer and do moar caravan."

Disclaimer: I could be wrong. This is just what I feel is common sense.

To be fair, I'm not sure how worthwhile a worthless moghouse furning would be, lol. I'm sure there are even people who caravan the nights away who would rather have another 25k in their pocket than a DAT's art packet on the wall.

I don't disagree with that at all; that's the only justifiable reason to take what should have been a 4,500 seal promotion and hike it by 20,500 seals. However, if neither of the other 2 options I mentioned are in play (or the third "they're planning something" paranoia option), why not just give back the 25k upon quest completion? Why add that extra step? Certainly not just for the opportunity for sentimentality or they'd have given the 25k AND the coin instead of AS the coin.

While I don't disagree, and while I don't want to sound callous, people are going to have to learn to live with that regardless of what they do with this coin. This is how the world works. I missed out on the Reindeer Costume and the Dragon Helms (my freaking zodiac!) due to university and I'm not tearing up the forums about it. It's as much my own fault for not logging in during exams that it would be if someone gave up their coin.

People who didn't buy collectors have to deal with not ever having the complete onion set. People who didn't play during 1.0 will have to deal with the fact that they can't have a goobbue. People years from now will have to deal with the fact that they pay more than legacy members... and if they do something with this coin, people who traded it in are going to have to live with the fact that they made their decision.
