lol. I actually clicked the link and looked at it and said, "WTF, that's not a dev post."1: Final Fantasy Lodestone Forums http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...ive-Coin/page6 User KumaAkuma reveals use for commemorative coin. SE et all 27JUN2012

I don't know how to think about it honestly. It would be typical SE to make the coin important in the future. We have been throwing away or selling beastcoins and now people are holding onto them for relics. I am saving my coin, there isn't anything I need from GC, so I will see what happens in the future.
It really goes either way, but maybe a Dev response could give clarification, unless it is their intent to make us debate about this. If that is the case, good mind game SE.
A dev response would be optimal, I agree. I don't need to be told everything but let's face it: I don't trust that the only options I have are to either:
- Keep it solely for sentimental value and forego taking advantage of its only potential
- Sell it shamelessly on the black market like that isn't completely disrespectful
I'd rather be told:
"If you held onto it... you might be glad you did someday. Just sayin'."
OR
"We will never do anything with that coin, you have nothing to lose by exchanging it."
I'm. so. glad. you. asked.
- We know that player/company housing is coming, right?
- Like FFXI housing, it will likely include furnishings, yes?
- Did you not have flags, certificates, signage, etc. on your walls?
Maybe you'd to frame your coin with some certification and put that on the wall?
I hear they do that with military coinage sometimes...

You had tables in FFXI, didn't you? Maybe you'd like your coin on that table.
BOOM.
That was the sound of someone trying to beat their coin back out of a qiqirn.
OR YOUR MIND BLOWING.
I'm not sure.

There could be a side-quest in post-housing 2.0 where players (who did not dishonor their company by illegally trading their memento of the day we restored the Eorzean Alliance to low-life qiqirn like common jinglyshine) could trade their well-protected coin to an NPC craftsman in our company command... who would see it framed proper for display in our future home; like people with honor.
EDIT: To be honest, I rather like the wall ornament idea. If this coin was never intended for anything else, I say we petition for this. Who's with me?! Who doesn't wanna soil their good name!?

My guess is that the coin gains in Value over time.
So if you hold the coin till 1.23 it will be worth say 35k.
If you wait till 2.0 it will be worth 40k.
...and so on.
totally forgot about this. This is kind of backward but related to at least U.S. Navy tradition. i would keep it personally, like my military script from FFXI. though i might see if i could trade it to a NPC Chief or any NCO or enlisted NPC who salutes you.
Tradition is that all new officers are given or must acquire a silver dollar. You give the silver dollar to the first person who salutes you after receiving your commission. My ROTC MCPO had quite a collection of them, being as he was CMC for our NTC.

always looking for good people.

I would just trade it in if you need the seals. SE would have to be huge dicks to allow you to trade the coin in for seals and then introduce something in the future which requires it with no method of re-obtaining it.
People would be in uproar on these forums.
Then you could only blame yourself. SE isn't forcing you to trade the coin, nor do they advertise doing so. What happens is you either save it, or let temptation get you and trade it in. The consequences I guess we will find out in the future.
