The only reason I'm led to believe this coin will be worth more is the description: "A gold coin minted by the three Grand Companies of Limsa Lominsa, Gridania, and Ul'dah to commemorate the reforming of the Eorzean Alliance. Guaranteed never to depreciate in value!"
If it's true that the events we're experiencing now will not be in 2.0, then it's likely this coin will not be obtainable either. Therefore I think the Qiqirn (or another npc) may pay more for it at that time.

Depreciate in value. Doesn't say anything about it gaining value. Suffice it to say, SE would be shooting themselves in the foot by adding something that is only obtainable once and not telling people it would have future use. I'm fairly certain this coin is simply a means of recovering from the massive seal hit one takes while ranking up to officer. It's just a little flavor detail. You give it to a Qiqirin, and lore-wise they have an obsession with shiny things.

It's just 25k seals, and I'd be willing to bet those 25k seals that it isn't going to be for anything else in the future.

Even if it doesn't go up, it won't go down. So what's the harm in waiting for 2.0 just to see? It's all speculation, but again, what's the harm?

None. There is absolutely zero harm. Never said to go cash your coin in, just that I'm fairly certain it's only going to ever be for a 25,000 seal stipend. If you want an item now, I'd say cash it. If not, you can just hang onto it to help with future rank ups.

Max out your seals, spend them on new ranks, and fill your pool back up with a quick 25k.

There is no harm per se. But there is also the possibility that you will never be able to trade it in for 25k seals or anything for that matter, ever again. What's to say that qiqirn doesn't get obliterated when Dalamud hits? *shrug*

I'm guessing that the "guaranteed never to depreciate in value!" line is a joke poking fun at the type of commemorative coin/plate/etc. commercials you see on TV. It's possible that the coin might have some use in the future, but I don't think the item description holds any kind of clue.
