It's called basophobia, the fear of falling. You don't have to have the fear of heights to be afraid of falling. Both are actually natural fears in almost every human being cause both height and falling is dangerous. But ofc like with all things there are some people who can deal better with it and people who can deal not that well with it, like OP.
I myself have acrophobia too but i can differentiate between a situation that is "threatening" to me and a game. So you don't see me screaming for SE to remove the sea of clouds or flying altogether.
If you have a deep problem with a game you consume, in my opinion, the best way is not to scream for the world to change to your needs but rather to change yourself. Be that by facing your fears or just leaving. What do people expect? SE taking every phobia into consideration? Many of them more common than the fear of falling. Should trees be removed or toggled from the game cause some people are deeply scared of them? Blood? Spiders? Heights? What about scotophobia the fear of darkness which really many are suffering with? Should we change the Hades fight and just make it bright? Should we remove the concept of dying from the game cause there are people deeply afraid of that?
As much as i feel for anyone who has to deal with phobias, SE won't make it better for you and expecting that is just delusional.
Try to avoid areas/zones that displays a certain level of height.I know it's irrational (that's what a phobia is, by definition), but I've got a fear of falling and the constant lovely-animated falling deaths just give me the shakes. Is there any way to suggest an option to just fade to black instead of showing those? They redid the entire sage icon due to reports of trypohphobia. Surely an option to just not display these shouldn't be insanely difficult. Should it?
I honestly doubt they’d go further to accomodate this unfortunately & quite frankly not every game, place or person may be able to accomodate to every part of your needs.
It all honestly comes at the end to your sense of awareness, how to best control that phobia (if given you’re taking therapy) and last but not least avoid those triggers as best as possible.
We cannot entirely control or modify external circumstances but you have control over your mind & will power; just avoid heights as much as possible.
Do your best.
Sky diving is one thing - just falling. The game has a LOT of other things OP can enjoy that have nothing to do with their fear and they have every right to continue to enjoy AND to ask for something that should be easy enough to implement. This has little to do with being an asshole. I am afraid of heights ergo i will never go sky diving cause i would probably pass out from the fear. That should be the normal human response, right? If you are terribly afraid of something then you avoid it. Ofc you can face it but OP isn't doing that in this case cause they want reality to change to avoid their fears.
Also not everyone can “just face it”.
And for OP, Id go for email contact, nobody gives a crap about what this forum says.
That is true and trust me i wouldn't mind at all if they actually changed the death animation to something that suits OP. But this is not very likely, not at all. Most likely outcome is that they tell them that they can't do anything about it. Which would put OP again right where they started.Sky diving is one thing - just falling. And i absolutely agree, they have probably friends and things they enjoy ingame. Abandoning that is probably not in their interest. So they do have to face their fears, SE won't do it for them.
I mean i would recommend therapy as a long term solution but that isn't doing anything for OP right now. And i know that there are many who can't afford it, sadly.
All you had to do was respond in a genuine way instead of trying to act like a smartass. That is true and trust me i wouldn't mind at all if they actually changed the death animation to something that suits OP. My point still stands tho, the easiest way to deal with this is to avoid the game. SE won't change the game for this, they might not want to face their fears as far as we can tell. So what else can they do?
It's not even that it is just the fear of height, it is the fear of falling itself which is something the game will never be able to avoid. Just think back to Illbert. The little girl falling when the priest pushed her. There is no trigger warning or anything so what will OP do in these cases?
Others can't fix their problem for them, especially not SE. Only they can choose to either confront their fears or well as hard as it sounds avoid them and quit. SE won't provide a happy end in this case. But again, i would be happy if proven wrong in this. Maybe then all the colorblind folks can also get better settings.
OP, do you mean the death animation in combat?
I cannot say much, but this game stores its animations in its files. Using certain methods, others have found ways to simply replace that death animation with other animations entirely. Some of these have been quite comical, and not scary at all. I won't encourage you to look into those, because that would be against the rules and I'm all about following rules. Merely suggesting that it's quite easy for a bored fan to do, so who knows! Maybe one day SE will get around to implementing different animations or something.
Hope this helps!
I have a friend who gets severe motion sickness whenever we go through the doors of Smileton, so his response is to always close his eyes and listen for the end so he can keep going. Best thing OP can probably do is close their eyes until they hear the landing sound and your character's grunt.
This one is beyond your help. Only sleep can save her now.
I enjoy realism so a fade to black is too abstract for me. Everyone should get that blood curdling scream that one Aura Male voice has as they fall to their death.
To remind you of the danger of falling off.
