First Time in Current Raids & LOVED IT

So some from my FC and some randoms did the new P9 to 12 today. I haven't done at patch raids before, even though I've played FF14 for a very long time. I absolutely had a great time.

The mechanics in some fights were very challenging and felt server ticks were questionable specifically the p12 boss, where you get clipped.

But I had an amazing time. Yes we died plenty and yes we had a fight with a random who was also new and left as we died a few times, maybe expecting a carry. And we had a fight with some greeders who tried to avoid mechanics for maximum up time. But overall it was the best time I've had in ages during content.

I'm one of those types who needs to do a fight, die to a mechanic a couple times and then I will remember it. Eventually got the hang of it.

To those who haven't done at level raiding like me, regardless of experience in the game, mostly due to a confidence thing. Go for it. Try to get some from you FC to go. Join voice chat. Have a great time. Be patient. It was so much fun and highly recommended.

100% agree, everyone should try to do the normal raids. They are designed so that everyone can clear them and the community is usually very accommodating to players trying the fights for the first time, especially at the beginning of a patch where everyone is doing it for the first time.

Yes. Exactly. It was difficult..it was challenging. But I think everything is challenging the first time until you learn it and give yourself time to do so. It was really fun in the end regardless of deaths. Lots of "ohhhh that's what that means" moments

As a raider I am glad you had a good experience. I hope you guys try out savage as well. It may seem daunting and hard at first, but once you learn the dance it gets rather easy especially after you clear a few times and get better gear. Haven't had a better feeling in this game than clearing hard content with friends, it's just so satisfying. Wish you luck in your future raid endeavors!

I wish having voice-acting on all raid encounters with spoken lines could be the norm instead of the exception.

Thank you for reminding me of my biggest complaint, they need to just voice all of the raid story cutscenes from now on.

I disagree about them being challenging, but they kept you on your toes more and asked you to observe the area for telegraphs or cast names, you know, like some of the Endwalker dungeons have throughout the expansion. But being kept on your toes and having to pay attention doesn't necessarily mean they are hard. It just means you don't see a red telegraph all the time which makes it braindead.

No, I think you just didn't understand the mechanic. The red telegraphs appear for a split second. You are meant to identify the mechanic either by the cast name or the colored symbols appearing somewhere or other things in the environment.

In other news, there is no technical debt from 1.0.
"We don't have ... a technological issue that was carried over from 1.0, because ARR was meant to kind of discard what we had from 1.0 and rebuild it from the engine."

The question i have is simply this.

Would you now attempt to raid savage knowing that the mechanics are not that much harder than normal, but just require some consistency?

Really loved the raid series. Story was great and the fights were challenging. Story time in between raids was also short and didn’t require any running around so that was nice too.

Mechanics were challenging. Even watching a video first I died at least once each time. (Sometimes because others who were first timers left me nowhere to stand). That said even with mostly first timers we were able to learn quickly and still clear them at the normal level with minimum wiping. So a challenge but not insurmountable in an evening is perfect for new normal mode for me.

keep in mind, what isn't challenging to you may be challenging to others, ie. op
