Please add downvotes to the forums

It's no secret that trolls have overrun the forums, drowning out the actual legitimate feedback and making the OF a joke. It's basically common knowledge now.

My request is simple. Give us a downvote button, and if you wanna really go the extra mile, allow us to see the upvote/downvote score before clicking on the thread.

Also might as well throw in a request to report forum users for trolling.

It's a good suggestion in principle - but considering how easily offended some people can be, and the way it's used on Reddit, it's a bit of a double-edged sword really.

Riiiiiiight, like that's totally going to make things better. If anything they should outright remove upvotes. Let's face it, any time you see something with a good chunk of upvotes/downvotes compared to the lower amount of opposing votes, you're going to claim it's rigged anyways when in reality you have zero idea whether it is or it isn't, or what the reasoning behind the upvotes/downvotes are. It's not going to change anyone's outlook either.

What exactly is this going to accomplish besides creating more childishness?

I am trying to remember it is so long ago but I think the forum used to have downvotes.....now if I am wrong I apologise but it seems to be something in the back of my mind from years ago. If so they removed because I think it was seen as negative.

I am thinking they must have seen moderators as negative as well since those seem to be often missing in action

lol I agree! The forums are awful and we never see a moderator.

The thing is, I've seen much more constructive discussion on Reddit than I've seen on the OF. I don't know why but it's plain to see that if I was a dev, I'd look at Reddit first for feedback (which is probably what they do anyway).

Eh not really. I remember back in late ARR highlighting that Eos was a DPS gain over Selene because Selene’s haste tooltips were massively misleading, some jobs didn’t like the haste buff and Whispering Dawn was so powerful that it simply allowed you to sit in cleric for longer.

Needless to say I got downvoted hard enough to get shadowbanned as this line of thinking wouldn’t come to be accepted until HW.

I fail to see how downvotes would help, as the trolls and those who enjoy dancing in their chaos would just use them to their own advantage. If anything perhaps getting rid of votes would be more helpful? I dunno. Moderation would be the best option but that seems like an impossibility on these forums.

Definitely a Double edged sword that will very likely work more against you than for you. The trolls around here behave as they do because they know nothing will happen to them.

If you want to get to them, just mention things you like about the game while following the rules. They absolutely hate hearing that while not having any ammunition to mass report you and get you banned.
