    It's actually a little more scuffed than even that, a shield seems to negate SAM LB by a significant, but not consistent factor. Have seen on multiple occasions a BLM pop their shield while at under 70% HP but higher than 50% and under the debuff effect basically get reduced to 1% as opposed to execute. It could be jank with server tick affecting the order of things but given how much a SAM needs to risk to even use the move it's just incredibly unreliable a mechanic whenever a shield, any shield as even the Monk's thunderclap has done the same, gets involved.

    Pretty much the one thing that doesn't help, of all things, is Guard. Whatever help it used to provide is outright non-existent now compared to all the options listed for shields. It might be possible to still do damage conventionally, but the execution aspect is completely useless whenever it comes into play, this is aggravated by the lack of visual feedback outside of the CC list and maybe a status bar which barely stands out either, and especially bad since shields are commonplace and frequently ready.

    Personal recommendation would actually be the complete retirement of execution LBs for something more consistent and less at the mercy to server tick, shields and arbitrary Line of Sight decision making (boy it's fun missing the debuffed person right in front of you). SAM's is the easiest to work around, and the most irritating to try and use. FF14 PvP servers can't really seem to keep up with the flow that these LBs demand, they might be making some classes unique, and Samurai can be fun to play... but not for the sake of executions, it's no more fun to the targets than it is to the user, the recent addition of an extra second for Chiten really is just a band-aid to a fundamental flaw.

    Man I always love those bad faith posts in an imaginary unicorn vacuum with no consideration for actual games. Not exactly rocket science to go browse every job toolkit and look for whatever shield ability they have, and then come up with a list like that. What an intellectual performance.

    Edit: to clarify, I could debunk half of those and show you why it's not that that clear cut, but the short answer is, if you're sitting on all those defensives at all times just to potentially defend against a SAM LB, I don't know what to say. Also, if you're already taking damage when popping your shield, odds are that your shield is going to melt before SAM LB actually hits you anyway. On the other hand, I'm not saying SAM LB is broken. It's underwhelming at high level, and only game changing at low level because people don't pay attention. If we're talking about FLs, FLs are just a shitshow with no real UI to help you dodge it anyway.

    man... i remember absorbing a zanzu 100% with the dragoon LB shield once, dude got really confused (the shield also scales off of how much battle high you have which i had max )

    Are you saying that you aren't putting MCH turret on point during a team fight where cleaves are most likely to happen? Or is this in the scope of putting it on yourself to bait the LB? cause either way you are getting value out of it...

    I mean... it's a good thing all this stuff is balanced around CC and not FL. You might not be able to survive 100% of the time, based on a variety of variables, but assuming you have the spacing to do so and have it lined up, try baiting the LB. SAM LB not being used gives the SAM infinite pressure at all times in a fight since a wayward cleave means death. You can control the efficacy of it by successfully baiting it putting the SAM out of position, since Zan is a dash, and eliminating the possibility of it being used against your teammates with less focus or vision of the battlefield. In terms of actual difficulty to pull off the bait; DNC, AST, SAM, BRD, RDM, and GNB have the hardest times due to how Zan snapshots otherwise most other classes have pretty on-demand defensive. It's a risky skill set to have but one very much worth investing in.

    Hi. I played SAM a few times and even got to Plat before!

    Each job has 6 unique buttons. PvP is meant to be simple and it's with these tools that every job has reasonable counters to SAM LB. It's only hard to counter in a vacuum if you're trying to cover a mistaken proc against chiten. Mistakes, fairly, should get punished. But if you throw a cast against a SAM from range as a SMN and immediately throw on an Aegis, that's one way to bait out a 2 minute LB for effect. You all should know this, even if not all counters are as obvious as PLD/DRK/SGE LBs. Some of you even touch on the fact that shield actions left on CD are a waste (unless you're planning to counter because you see their LB gauge is up!)

    No one should get to expect a free escape from a Zanny when they have half health just because they still have a defensive available. Seto seems to be the only one to understand that MCH turret is AMAZING against SAMs for example. It doesn't give Kazushi to the MCH when it ticks AND it increases the target's damage taken, which is a great COUNTER against chiten's mitigation. Unless you're only playing Casual matches with people who are still learning how to play, a SAM with the MCH turret debuff should get bursted to death asap by the team even through chiten.(25% mit isn't that much even before turret debuff)

    Not one job is helpless against its LB and it sure isn't free for taking 2 minutes to charge. It's a fun job with a lot of nuance in how well it plays at each level. I'll tell you this much as well. If someone hit a SAM with chiten up and die afterward to Zan, they made 2 mistakes. One is that they hit the wrong target with their mitigation up, and the second is that they weren't ready for it. The chump messed up and earned that death twice over.

    Feels bad because played bad. Tell them to get over it and do better.
