    New Lucky Bancho numbers are out

    Statistics are statistics and all that, but so far, they're suggesting that EW is going well enough. Some discussion happening on Reddit about it ( https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxivdiscus...3_139m_active/ ) but it seems that EW's been fairly successful.

    As someone there said:

    It is ---- like this that makes me realize that the dev team is acting in good faith for the company and ---takes we get in this subreddit are honest to god garbage.
    And someone in reply:

    Well of course. At the end of the day, the only people that actually have the numbers to back up the decisions being made are the developers. Anything else is pure speculative trash.

    That's not to say that every view of anyone outside that tiny circle is wrong though. It's just that using this subreddit as a gauge or measuring stick of any kind...always needs a HEFTY dose of skepticism.
    Overall, some interesting stuff to consider.

    So... more people stopped playing during patch 6.0 than any other point in the history of the game (880k).

    This is natural as Endwalker was the most hyped up expansion to date.

    Solid enough proof that the playerbase of 'ACTIVE' players (level 60 or above, not on a free trial) is around 1.4m total.
    So the other 18.6m subs are either bots or free trial characters/alts

    We've pretty much lost all the players we got from the boom.

    But LuckyBancho counts someone who does Euphrosyne in 6.3 for 40 minutes then unsub for 4 months as much as someone who 24/7 grinds Eureka. It's a very poor metric to actually track activity and engagement.

    What always gets glided over is how absolutely abysmal the retention rate is. It gets camouflaged by new players coming in, and there are a LOT of new players coming in every patch. The devs already know this, there's a reason they stopped giving a f*** about vets and started doing shit like Trusts, ARR rework, etc.



    This chart also does well in very obviously showing just how uncorrelated the main count is from activity: just look at 6.0 vs the others.

    But again, we're all posting in a Renathras thread so there's not much point to delve further unless you want a 10-page essay full of nonsense directed at you

    One thing LuckyBancho does better than other metrics though is that it correlates with SE's financial bottom line more. Whether you're here for 2 hours or 30 days in a month, you are the same $14.99 to SE.

    The larger the players grow, the more will return just for an expansion launch and then leave. Although of course, SE had to stop selling the game or allowing people on the trial to login because of the congestion, which caused people to wait some months to return to the game.

    They aren't subs, just total characters that have been made since the start which may or may not be subscribed.

    But within a pool of 18 million, individuals may take in turns to be subscribed on any given month. So you could have 1 million of those 18 million subscribe month 1, then a different 1 million subscribed the next, and that's why we see so many returners all the time.

    True. If someone has a hardcore level of engagement, they are probably on all these fan websites such as collecting websites or using resources like the balance and resources like that would have a better idea of the hardcore engagement specifically.

    The game could have 10million players and it wouldnt matter because 90% of them are Limsa dwelling erpers. No way in hell should a Alliance Raid have 1 hour queuetimes during primetime in a "popular" game. But thats the result of catering to people that cant even press 2 buttons.

    If you are queuing at 11am on a normal working day, I can think of one very good reason why the queue is so long.

    You could even lookup my post about the AR queuetimes and realize its during a saturday right around reset. I dont know doesnt get more primetime than that. But what do you know, you dont even do battlecontent. Probably hit your crafting macro and tab back to the forums to tell everyone how much content there is in the game.

    I mean, i recently tried out world of warcraft due to popular demand by forum dwellers.

    The 'Looking for raid' stuff took anywhere from 1 hour to 4 hours to pop depending on role.

    Its not just XIV, its all MMO's making the content 'one and done' per week and no reason to re-run it, leading to absolute bottom level of queue times.
