Seventy-seven Caravans?

I was shopping in Ul'dah today...

In the Ul'dah Mercantile House, Zawawa says: "Shop at the Seventy-seven Caravans of Ul'dah, and see your coin well spent!"

In the Limsa Mercantile House, Diving Eagle says "Come one, come all to the Seventy-seven Caravans of Limsa Lominsa!"

Are both of these factions supposed to be called the 'Seventy-seven Caravans'? And if so, why do both cities have exactly 77 Caravans? Is there some trade law i dunno about?

Maybe so. I spoke to the Gridania one and it didn't mention anything about no 77 caravans. lol

Who are these mysterious 77s?

If that's the case, though, calling a single tent your national branch doesn't say much for your enterprise.

Actually, if you pay attention to your Craftleves, you'll notice that the vast majority of the higher level ones are issued by The Seventy-Seven Caravans. In fact the main ALC Leve NPC in Ul'Dah is even shouting about the wares which they sell (which is mostly mundane hence why she is not a shop NPC) as she works for them.

From what I gather, there are to very large transport/trade companies in Eorzea, the Black Rabbit Traders which deal mostly with continental import/export (hence why most of the foreign and event stuff comes from them) and the Seventy-Seven Caravans which deal mostly with trade among the three (arguably four but i've seen no proof) city-states.

Also my guess as to why they are named 'seventy-seven caravans' is because they have (or had at the start) seventy-seven caravans, or trade routes, running. Given the fact they are everywhere i'm sure they're above that number right now
