Endwalker is my least favorite expansion yet

ShB had a decent story, but the quality was not there outside of that, sorry. It's where a lot of the quality started going downhill.

This is my opinion from what I could see from SHB and EW, it doesnt go before that so I dont know how it was in the past

I think there's a massive disconnect here. You make fun of people who play other games while also still enjoying the content in this one, while not actually playing this game yourself. You use it as a chatroom and your excuse for not doing content is you have enough friends to know the content is boring, and also streamers?


I don't think anyone watching videos of this game would find that fun. The fun is doing it yourself. I'd get bored of any game like this if all I did was watch streamers....

I dont make fun of people playing other games, I'd love to know where I did that, I am making fun of people using "just play other games" as an excuse for the absolutely mediocre and boring content this game has to offer, and dont you worry about me, I have seen more than enough to know how boring it is, I dont watch "actual" streams on twitch, but I have friends streaming it on discord if I want to see the content and I am bored, and I dont like it, I find it absolutely boring, and the whole 2 min meta is an abomination.

You're far from alone, OP. EW has been disappointing and overwhelmingly lacklustre for a lot of people. There's a tangible undercurrent of discontent when you look past the surface-level social media hubs, and numerous players are struggling to find a reason to stay subbed for any length of time.

Personally, I think they made an enormous mistake condensing two EPs into one. Ever since the end of 5.0, the pacing of the story has gone to absolute hell, and they've developed the habit of rushing through important build-up and story development in what I'm assuming was a bid to quickly capitalise off of the hype ShB generated. Unfortunately, what ended up happening was we got a story that felt clumsy, hurried and slapdash, and didn't deliver on offering a satisfying conclusion to an arc some ten years in the making. What's worse is it seems to have set a precedent given what we've seen with the void patches, and combined with their chosen course of refusing to develop gameplay/ content offering any real depth or complexity in case it chases off the casual community, it's really hard summoning any enthusiasm or reason to keep playing beyond the initial few days following patch release.

I just know how to deal with that. If the game ever stopped being fun, I'd just quit. If I'm not having fun what's the point? That seems to be something a lot of people can't grasp for some reason. They must still be young or something.

Some people have an attachment to it, some feel frustrated and wanted to share how they feel and the whole pervasive, toxic positivity culture we currently live in makes it rather hard to do that. Others still possess some kind of hope things might turn around, or to a lesser degree "want to see where it'll end up." It's not really hard to understand. When anything has been a part of your life for any significant amount of time, it's always a little sad when it comes to end, and much more so when it's as a result of factors that feel avoidable.

Algaia was okay, but it left me feeling "Oh, THESE are the gods and goddesses we've been referring to since forever? That's it?"

The Twelve raids really didn't land with me either, but I struggle vocalising why. I mean, I suppose since the Zodiark/ Hydaelyn reveal we expected to some degree that they were going to end up being some form of primal/ ascended Ancients or whatever they turn out to be themselves, but it feels very... strange to address such a famous cornerstone of Eorzean lore and a subject previously so veiled in mystery and central to the plot so casually. I could have seen the reveal being a fairly big deal in the MSQ, instead of it just being like "well hey, it's Byregot and Azem!" It's odd.

Without ShB, you wouldn't have EW.
Both are good. Yes, we could have better rewards for some stuff but they don't want to do it now. Perhaps in 7.0+ or never.

In post EW, the MSQ is not having the same impact as post ShB, however, Pandaemonium lore is interesting enough. Perhaps we may have some cool revelations in 6.5 with the end of Myths of the Realm.

Instead of Bozjan, now we have Sanctuary, they said that expedition zones will return in 7.x. Instead of Expedition we gained a Deep Dungeon and Variant Dungeon. Yoshi P made clear on the last live letter their intent with variant dungeon: they want you to explore it, annotate your choices/paths and try something different next time. It's not meant to follow a tutorial just to get your mount.

They are trying to balance content, it's just a matter of strategy...a more casual expansion seems perfect to fit FFXVI on their calendar while they polish some stuff in FFXIV like UI elements, emotes, etc.

From a development perspective and SCRUM, i see no contradiction here.

That's not what I mean by toxic positivity.

I mean the attitude prevalent in most pockets of the internet these days wherein any critical reaction towards a given form of media is attacked and derided as "unnecessary negativity" that tries to "ruin" things for everyone else, even when those individuals aren't being included in the topic at hand. It effectively shuts down any discussion that isn't universally positive and makes it incredibly difficult for fans to find a forum (no pun intended) where they can share their opinion without being dismissed or shouted down.
