Weapon versatility for all jobs <Yes, Please>

I personaly like to be versatile when it comes to weapons... I know the current job system is based on the weapon... but I like to choose what kind of warrior I will like to be... sometimes I like to use my great sword, or an axe and shield... Be able to equip a bow and arrow....
Same as a mage or any ingame kind... since when an archer goes out to the wilderness with only a bow and arrow?? where is the short damage weapon...
Mayb I'm just talking out of my ass and this is going to be fixed for 2.0 but I havent heard anything about it...
How can they add red mage's if they only gonna be able to equip one type of weapon...

<No thanks> Doesn't really make sense with FFXIV's class system

I also want some weapon versatility something around like FFXI. Where Warrior can use Sword,Axe,Great Axe.

Or make the 2 job link to the class have a diff wep please so we have at least something else to use.

You say this but mage's use 1 or 2 handed weapons. While I do agree that we shouldn't go as far as XI, I would like to see more variety, a PLD with a 1h hammer/mace or a WAR with a great sword. As long as it doesn't effect skills (PLD MUST use a shield so no 2h or duel wield) I don't see an issue with it.

RDM would use a Foil, Saber or Epee btw unless they make them a full on mage class in which they would get stuck with wands/staffs

I think mages get a free pass since their classes don't "train" to actually use weapons, they just channel their power through their tool (you can auto attack as mage, that's it). I dunno, in my mind it just makes sense for 1 class 1 weap for the most part.

Also, I'm not going to have the ridiculous "remove classes" argument again, at this point if you don't get it, you Don't Get It.

There used to be weapon skills, most of which had some kind of magey functionality like restoring MP or lowering magic defense or whatever. My understanding is that these as well as other skills on other jobs were cut becasue of a technical limit on actions per class. Perhaps they'll come back in 2.0 for the occasional times when they come in handy. If they're ranged like the original basic attack was, then they could be used without moving from typical casting range. TP doesn't degenerate while in combat, so from time to time you do have TP to use. Except currently, there are no skills you can spend it on, especially after the cost to use second wind was removed.

    Used to be.
And like you said, they were more for their effects than their attack.

Now that I think about it though, I guess it *could* make enough sense if when you unlocked your class's job then you got access to a second weapon or something. I would rather it be a new, unique weapon than one that another class full times, though :/

Sorry, but no. Not after seeing PLD with a staff, RDM with a staff and DRK dual wielding axes. The weapons are part of the job aesthetic. Not to mention, it wouldn't make sense with the armoury system.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
    * Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)

There could still be limits to keep PLD from using Staves or White Mages with Great Axes. And honestly, if they are blowing up the game I can't imagine the Armory system won't see a major overhaul.
