    7.0 Job: The Corsair ; A discussion

    When I heard that they were wanting to think of new jobs for 7.0, I got to thinking of some like Chemist and Time Mage, but those job would mainly fit healer roles... Since it probably needs balance, it would have to be a ranged DPS and caster DPS.
    So I got to thinking of a ranged DPS that would fit in and the one that came to mind would be a corsair.
    There is already a few enemies in game that use both a gun and blade and that gave inspiration to this~ That and the uniqueness is enough to not collide or feel to similar to other jobs.

    I've left out cooldowns, durations and potency mainly because I wouldn't quite know a good balance.
    Of course the melee combo would be stronger than the gun combo, but the combo boost would make up for it and make it balanced to use the gun combos as well.

    Corsair idea for FFXIV

    Job given by the retired pirate captain.
    Job story is hunting down a rouge pirate group that even Mistbeard can't catch.
    Weapon is one handed sword and off hand gun
    Ranged DPS using Scouting gear


    Gauges are Morale (From all weaponskills 5-10, 100 max) and Plunder coins (1 coin for finishing a combo up to 10)


    Melee combo
    Slice - Vertical slash
    Dice - Two horizontal slashes
    Storm's Rage - Diagonal slash and jumping slash (Gives plunder coin and boosts potency of first attack on gun combo)


    Gun combo
    Full barrel - Normal aimed shot
    Up and At em - Three shots going upwards
    Storm Blaze - Spin and fire a heavy shot (Gives plunder coin and boosts potency of first attack on melee combo)


    AoE
    Sparkpowder - Throw sparkpowder that ignites and crackles (Conal aoe) [Payment - Adds blind debuff to attack]
    Firesand Bomb - Toss a bomb and shoot it (Circle aoe) [Payment - Adds stun debuff to attack]
    Loaded Barrel - Throw a barrel full of powder and shoot it - Big damage to main target, less to others [Payment - damage falloff is reduced from 70% to 50%]


    Morale abilities
    To Arms - Raise gun and fire in the air - Cost 50 Morale - 3% damage boost and 5% critical and direct hit chance
    Impale - Stab deep - Cost 25 Morale - 30 second DoT
    Plunder - Slash horizontally and get the enemy coin purse - Cost 25 Morale - Gain 3-7 Plunder coins
    Foresight - Eye opens above players head - Cost 50 Morale - Reduce weaponskill, recast and auto-attack delay by 20%
    We'll Make It - A rallying shout - Cost 25 Morale - Gives regeneration to party [Payment - Also give a shield of 10% party memebers hp]


    Plunder abilities
    Lady luck be kind - Throw coins in the air that vanish - 2 coins - Ensures the next weaponskill is a critical direct hit
    Payment - Throw a coin in the air that vanishes - 1 coin - Changes certain weaponskills to have added effects
    All or Nothing - Load your Plunder coins into your gun and fire in a line - All coins - Damage based on Plunder used (Damage falloff 40% less for all other targets)


    Normal abilities
    Courage - Stand firm - Gain 50 Morale
    Charge - Rush at the enemy and slash hard - 3 charges - Gap Closer
    Retreating blast - Stab the enemy and fire your gun - 3 charges - Jump back
    Careful Planning - Look left and right, then forwards and nod - Reduce damage taken by 10% for party (The ranged DPS defence buff like Tactician)
    Eyes up - Brace and look forwards - Reduce next attacks damage by 10% - Gain 15 morale if attacked
    Bounty - Mark the target for a bounty - Upon defeating the enemy - Gain 3 Plunder


    Passives
    Riches - Allows accumulation of Plunder coins
    Heroism - Allows accumulation of Morale
    Swashbuckling Mastery - Potency boosts

    Limit Break 3 ideas

    Grim Payment/The Crew - Raise your sword and summon a ghost ship behind you, upon casting, point the sword forwards and fire the cannons from the ship in a straight line.

    Batten the Hatches - Stomp on the ground and have a cannon fall and land in front of you. One foot on the cannon and have a laugh, upon casting, slash the fuse and ignite it, blasting the cannon and exploding the end of the damage area and cover the rest in fire and smoke. The cannon itself exploding into pieces from the sheer explosive power.


    This is what I have so far with the corsair idea.
    I'd hopefully like to have discussions about the idea itself to fine-tune it and make it viable to be a playable class (Hopefully) for 7.0

    So please keep the discussion to the corsair idea and not derail into other job ideas.

    Back in SB, I made job idea like this called Privateer. ✧٩(ˊωˋ*)و✧
    They used Sabers and Pistols as their weapon and were suppose to be like Corsair + Berserker, where it had dice to buff allies, coins to debuff enemies, and a Mercy gauge you had to decrease in order to use certain weaponskills and abilities, all while gaining procs from your normal weaponskills to do oGCDs in between each of them.

    My only issue with Corsair is it's role. If equipped with either a sword & gun or dual wield pistals it would be acting like either red mage or machinist, in that it would dart in and then range attack or remain afar. It's "flavor" would be in cards/dice game play which means it will spill over into astrologian/ninja/dancer juggling act. As a huge supporter of "Support JoB Class" creation, I love Boosting and Debuff jobs play, but this game isn't really designed for it.

    I play every job and while I'm not saying certain jobs all are unique, you do want to have jobs stand out in some way. To me what's been misssing is a "Damage over Time" specific job. Summoners used to be it, but they create more spike damage for it. Some jobs have 1 Damage over time job move and that its. Blackmage have a bit more flavor in that Thunder can "stack with itself" by its ability to reset damage with insta cast ability.

    So if you can modify a corsair job with this or chain damage...think that fight with chainsaw guy in the castle "his machine gun move", I'd be behind this.

    Now that I think of it Machinist should job swap with Corsair. Let corsair shot every so often and let Machinisht do Dot and Chain damage.
