It is really an issue to have only 64 slots for a single CWLS, most players are casual, and have friends between Servers and Data Centers. At least double the amount of slots, that way we would solve the real amount of players that could interact with one another in a weekly basis.
Attention Square-Enix : This issue needs to be made a priority.
Having the CWLS size so restrictive is forcing people to be selective and discriminatory about the people they allow in their CWLS and causes extreme social anxiety when it becomes obvious that you have been excluded - intentionally or not - from interacting and participating with friends in the game. People are suffering because of a number - this is a bigger issue than just communicating hunt information - you're promoting discrimination and exclusionary practices.
Just want to share information about my CWLS versus my LS on my main character that I play on multiple times a week.
In order, my CWLS are:
1) A Rank hunt train coordination and flag sharing (constantly full and constantly needing to kick people and rely on Discord)
2) S Rank spawner coordination and flag sharing (same as above)
3) S Rank spawner coordination and flag sharing... 2!! (same as above. c'mon man. number two?! we used to have three... At this rate, we'll need the third again with Dawntrail! How will we relay to people who want hunts and fates when we need so many for coordination?)
4) Hunt Relay (constantly full and constantly needing to kick people and rely on Discord. Also need help figuring out who hasn't been on recently!! I have accidentally kicked active people before.)
5) Hunt Relay 2 (same as 4)
6) Hunt Relay 3 (same as 4)
7) Hunt Relay 4 (same as 4)
8) S Rank Moogle spawners group (the only one that isn't full and doesn't need constant culling. used for off-world communication, coordination, and flag sharing)
In order, my LS are:
1) Hunt relay 1 (not very active, and not culled of inactive often. has around 75 members at the moment)
2) Friend group (does not need culling as it never fills)
3) Hunt relay 2 (constantly culled as it reaches the 128 max)
4) Friend group (same as 2)
5) Hunt relay 3 (same as 3)
6) Hunt relay 4 (same as 3)
7) S Rank Moogle spawners group (the only one that isn't full and doesn't need constant culling. used for on-world communication, coordination, and flag sharing)
8) Hunt relay 5 (same as 3)
This obviously isn't every single hunt relaying/hunt focused linkshell for Moogle, and still the number of members go past that of all my hunt CWLS, which has to account for all of Chaos and even sometimes Light! There is demand, but no room, and no easy way to know who is still active! I have to go onto the Lodestone and, one-by-one, check out the previous achievements of players, if those are even allowed as visible, and even that tedious action doesn't tell me if people are active or even subbed.
We should not have to rely on outside sources, like Discord, to relay hunts. I know it is a very long way off from giving hunt relays to every single person who wants them, but we need steps taken to ensure everyone can come and have fun with the hunt. Even amongst those in the Discord, we often get people asking for in-game linkshells and cross world linkshells that relay hunts and achievement fates. It's simply easier for everyone! Not everyone uses Discord, and, especially for console players for whom it would be difficult to keep up a second monitor to check Discord or TOS-friendly websites, linkshells are simply quicker. We have taken the steps to share hunt and achievement fate flags to get relayed to every hunter interested. We need FFXIV to help with the rest.
As a console player, I agree that that this topic urgently needs more attention, for many a reason as others have discussed. And, it would help many communities and friendship groups.
I certainly hope that one day soon, the member capacity for cross world linkshells can be increased (anything past 64, maybe meet the same amount as regular linkshells, which is currently set at 128). It would immensely help so it doesn't feel so limiting to add members or fear having to remove or kick anyone, which no one should have to be, ideally.
After all, may come to this game to try content together, especially if they are on different Servers/Datacenters/Worlds. And while the use of outside resources like Discord can be used, not everyone has the means or ability to use outside resources like this (especially for console players, who may only have attention to one screen, as commented!).
Personally, while I do play with a tablet I use nearby for voice chatting with friends via Discord, some friends do not use at all and only speak in-game, and there is a much bigger / likely chance they will only talk in-game. I would like to keep these friends, and the ones who voice-chat too, ideally in the same cross-world linkshell, so everyone has a chance to communicate in a way they prefer to. Some people choose to only listen, but type their reply (either due to personal issue outside of Final Fantasy XIV, or simply out of habit) and any way to respect that would be very nice quality of life improvement, especially for a social MMO as this one.
In addition, we would like to try best NOT to break up friendship circles, many intermingled one with another, and another, and another. A community of friends, from 2, to 4, to even way more, can grow at any time, very fast. And, it does feel limiting and sad to have to decide who can participate in "this channel" versus other channels, which isn't fair or right.
Bump on this thread since it is still an on going issue and it needs support![]()
Obligatory 2024 bump.
