    Bad lag again with NTT's NA server network

    EDIT / UPDATE
    • What we know is this is mostly AT&T Internet customers that are affected.
    • After 3 days Square-Enix has finally stated they are aware of the problem and working to get it fixed. (Source: These forums & Twitter)
    • This is a problem at the server hosting company with a link between them (NTT.net) and the AT&T link, so they claim. This means SE can't fix it themselves.
    • The use of a VPN can get around the problem but it depends on your VPN provider.

    Update: May 20, 2023.
    We're on day 6 of this problem now. From a customers point of view, this seems to be the new normal for AT&T Internet users if they wish to play FF14 on the NA servers. Unless you play the game between 2am and 10am EST, you will get on average 15-20% packet loss along with DOUBLE the lag you should be getting.

    It's happening again. NTT having bad packet loss and lag all within their network. Please get this fixed once and for all.

    Past 2.5 months.

    (NTT made a change in early April that caused the average pings to increase by 5-10ms)

    Can confirm as an AT&T user as well, the ping is around 105 to 110 ms today for me. My ping is usually between 50 and 65 ms, which it was yesterday.

    Whatever changes NTT and/or SE made were not good ones, it seems. Hopefully, they'll see these threads and get to the bottom of this.

    Yup, I'm seeing the same thing, pings went from 59ms to 109ms. Yet another example of NTT's terrible service outside of Japan. I really feel like I'm shouting in to the void here since none of these threads are ever even acknowledged by SE, not even a "We are aware of this issue and are working with NTT to resolve", nope just crickets. The issue will silently go away some time in the next day or two (hopefully) and then all this will repeat again in a few weeks/months.

    It just keeps getting worse and worse. Even just trying to work on a gathering relic drove me up the wall with non-responsive action uses. I just logged out of the game.

    This is over the past 30 minutes. Each red line is lost packets.

    Aye, this lag is unacceptable and makes the game unplayable for all us affected players. I'm watching a friend's stream, and they are located on the West Coast. They are not experiencing any connection issues, thankfully, so that does lead more credence to the NTT Sacramento node being the culprit.

    Both SE and NTT need to get their act together, ideally before 6.4.

    I'm averaging around a 25% packet loss today. It's super annoying. It seems to be getting worse sometimes. Other times it seems to be better.

    But it's 100% a problem with NTT.net. There's nothing SE can do about it. The SE servers are running just fine. Your ISP is running just fine.

    NTT.net is having issues. Complaining here won't do anything

    We're gonna post anyway, because it will at least let SE be aware of their business partner's unacceptable handling of it.

    NTT is where SE host their servers. We complain to SE who should contact NTT.

    NTT is a hosting company out of Japan but they opened a datacenter in California several years ago. This is why the NA servers were moved from Canada to Cali because SE wanted to host all their servers with one company, NTT.

    Also have AT&T and running into lag and rubberbanding. Packet loss seems to be around 15% based upon a few pings of the NA server.

    Posting in all the related threads to this just to say: Yes, this is happening, and yes, it's bad. It makes the game absolutely unplayable for anything except a chat simulator. There is nothing that can be done as the end-user except post enough that SE eventually notices.
