the graphic update should also be updating the older crusty textures.

hopefully this coincides with them killing ps4 support
PS4 support is staying for 7.0 at least for now...8.0 onwards doubtful. PS5s are selling stupidly well so by the time of 8.0 they would be in a much better spot to transition players over to that platform. In the first 6.4 live letter he made a small comment in regards to people wishing to see a new update on the visuals (which will be fanfest in July at least) He said that while PS4 support will exist he doesn't imagine it running the new stuff they are doing so it will likely be disabled, he did allude to it being toggable though so who knows? Maybe ps4 pro could don't know. The core issue is them dropping low spec pcs because he has said they are more of a bottleneck so them moving minimum spec up will be a good thing for the long haul.

LEt me answer that short, no matter WHAT MMO... you will end feeling bored.... if Final Fantasy 17 or whatever is the next one... then even if it is entirely different... you will end feeling bored because then you just get too used to that system.

So it is kind of a joke you are coming with there, no matter what MMO I played, when in endgame, you will face repetetative stuff and if you totally change the gameplay, the entire player base will leave.

I think WoW really hit the mark with the timewalking (or w/e the name is used for raids, I forgot) and M+ for dungeons, repetitive content can be challenging and fun. The problem is that in FFXIV they refuse to make it fun and challenging, or they completely miss the mark.

And also, as I mentioned earlier, if they even dare try to make it a little bit challenging and more long-term, they'll get an absolute outcry from the people treating this as their 10th game instead of their main game because then they'll actually have to play the game a little bit, so yeah

[Who knows, it might even take the extremes and disconnect what the series is know for completely from the game, and even out the stats only when in a story mode, til we are released back into the normal game.]
[They are, at the very least wiser on avoiding the restraints when building/rebuilding a game. Some may say it's a blind optimism to expect it to affect development. Yet they cannot really deny that it did affect, and still affects things, even how they perceive things to work. Excuse or not.]

If we are to go through things one by one.

I at the very least can imagine the inner regions of the world map to be much larger and connected, before it'll eventually fragment into middle-to-outer zones and boundaries of the same size. With potential transitional zones connecting new areas. <With the inner zones larger focus on the Hub>

I doubt SE, or as YP has expressed <whether you agree with him or not, regardless if its about XIV or what is done with the XVI combat giving impressions of what may occur elsewhere>
Which way the combat will go.., (You can say that they'll appeal to mass audience with action-and it's various forms-, a old/current/new hybrid, or stay even longer as traditional.) <I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to struggle with "greed" and try to fit all, not to please everyone or tick of a checklist of options. but to increase variety, and avoid some of the sameness/homogenized feelings a undeniable amount of players feel.>

As for graphics, I imagine by that time, we'll likely get something that is, if not close to the Trailers/Patch Reveals.[But this is still a long time away, with no way to tell what could happen in that time.](so I feel like I'm making a conservative guess on what could happen.)
[Don't have much bet/stock on future Stylistic artstyle from SE if it's a FF MMO, unless they not only tested the waters of the "Ratings" hole, but also merged ideas of multiple genres/styles and various Views of fantasy from east/west/etc.<as much as labeling the regions could make them unintendedly groan.>]
Off topic, but I'm genuinely curious, what is the difference between (), [], and <> in your posts? I know I've mentioned your style before, it's just such a unique looking style.

I am not ready for a new FF MMO yet, but I am interested in exploring new MMOs in general. A new Lord of the Rings MMO was just announced and I'll probably check that out.

I am a bit of a graphics snob, so I do hope the graphics improvements that are coming breathe a little bit of a longer life in XIV at least visually. But if we had a brand new next-gen FF MMO I'd play that too, to play my WoL's descendant or something in a refreshed story or gameplay style.

Off topic but I also wouldn't mind a Skyrim-esque game but in a Final Fantasy world as a singe player sandbox either.

I agree 100%. However, over designed dungeons like we have here kills some of our creativity. Wall to wall pulls are extremely restricted in many of our dungeons. Open dungeons could work attached to a synced system like FATEs and predeterminated routes in a map. Take POTD as an example, during the opening cinematic they present POTD as a cavern where the entrance is hidden underground...would be great if we could simply walk there, do some challenges and exit somewhere else.

I loved ShB Raktika arc because the feeling of exploration.

And at the same time when they make the same old content... Players disliked it. So the argument is moot. Players are going to dislike anything done so at least try to make the game interesting instead of boring everyone in an exercise of futility in trying to appease those people who go out of their way to complain about everything in hopes of getting 5 seconds of internet fame.

Graphics being good isn't enough. The game would have to actually be good. Games like New World proved that those sort of graphics need something good behind it or it won't work.

I also just think it wouldn't be realistic to work on two competing MMORPGs at once. People would infer that Yoshi-P cares about one or the other more and go to that one. It would either have to be made by someone else (different SE unit) or in a world where Yoshi-P has stopped working on FFXIV.
Thanks for the reply! I wanna clarify that UE5 is not a focus because of good graphics, nanite and lumen make it so the developers literally just drag and drop one detailed asset into the world and it authors the LOD's for them, this would save so much time, energy, and resources making a big open world. The world partition system breaks big massive maps into a grid based system so you can edit individual areas(squares) as needed, think of how much easier this would be to find and address bugs, glitches, etc. not to mention loading areas in and out as needed which saves a sh*t ton on processing if you utilize the SSD's in PS5/XSX or equivalent (which by the time they game out with a new MMORPG we would already be towards the end of the 10-year plan Yoshi announced last year and at the PS6 level). Also the one file per actor system in UE5 allows any developer, program designer, artist, whoever, to edit the game at the same time(this was not possible in UE4) which means it's a lot easier for teams to collaborate when designing and creating the game at once. It's waaaay more than just "good graphics", it literally makes developing major content like an MMO much easier and smoother, allowing the team to be more creative and devote time and energy to innovation in gameplay and new ideas, unlike being limited to the same formula in FF14...

I would love to see Yoshida come up with a completely new idea/framework for an MMO instead of being stuck with what 1.0 left him and iterating upon that. I get this is his baby now and all the things I disagree with fall squarely on his shoulders as the director, but if FF16 turns out to be an incredible game I would absolutely love to see what he does with an entirely original MMO built on a modern engine and new ideas.
Exactly! 16 was a chance for the team to take a break from 14 and do something fresh and so far it looks absolutely incredible, but I feel the same way, what can he and the team do with starting from fresh, even using a new engine like UE5 that makes it so much easier to build open world content. I think that's why he made that statement of wanting to do another MMO before he retires, because he had to work magic with limitations, and now with all the experience from changing 14, what can he do starting from scratch and getting to make something in his creative vision as a video game designer/producer, it's exciting to think about

The benefit of required narrative is making you care about the world. Frankly, when I look at games like New World or Ashes of Creation, I simply don't care. I have no attachment to their world. Story helps to create that.
That's something that to me would be INCREDIBLY fun and enjoyable, big monsters or NM's for example, that could come out of nowhere(or maybe there is lore involved in them and why they come out), to attack a city-state, actually damaging the city state, and players have to fight to protect it, and if they lose part of the city stays ruined for actual real-life days while the town works to rebuild it. There could be challenging combat, quests, etc. for people who are hardcore, want to form alliances and take on challenges, and then tons of medium content for casual players who want to play with a friend of 2 or alone, crafting, fighting smaller monsters, accumulating small comfort wealth. I think if they could create an open world with tons of hard level and casual level content that could be expanded over years and years, they would have something special. Interactive worlds and changing/dynamic environments, just imagine it, it would be incredible. If they started planning something like this in the next few years, it would be a while before a game like this would come out, and it would probably release into the PS6's lifecycle(and equivalent Xbox and PC's) to make sure it can happen on a hardware level too
