Lol you people are truly on copium if you think a new engine would magically solve what is ultimately a directorial and management issue. As always, the loudest don't speak for everyone, they always tried new stuff and most of the time people liked them and kept it/kept developping it further.
They have stat tracking on how much players actually play said content that they add so they know what to look for.
Ultimates, eureka/bozja which are a huge upgrade to Heavensward's Diadem that they actually kept in the game, criterion and PvP or even the island are "new" things so to speak since Stormblood.
The only reason why FFXIV is slow and tedious in terms of making changes or developping new, refreshing content is because they listen the JP community too much and are very limited due to the nature of the engine of the game.
The base code and engine for the game is terrible due to the fact that they had to rush game developement, you just have to see how long it takes for a friend list to load, the very limited choices for hair colours, the fact that they can't put a glamour dresser in houses without it crashing the servers, and how hard it is for them to optimize the maps so they don't start lagging ur game and obviously the item dyes/clothing physics etc.. the list keeps on going
Pretty much why I personally hope they'll make a new MMO one day, with a decent base and engine that'll make things to be much more interesting
