I think a new MMO built from the ground up with the latest unreal engine with a subscription based model is what many people are craving for. The graphics update will help but lets be real. FFXIV is great but in the next 10 years these graphics and code will not sustain everyone

As long as their server actually responds to commands then yes go for it.

Just need the dev team to take risks and release brand new content that is fun with replayability rather than following the same exact formula for 10 years. Right now the content they release dies out within a week or two once it's cleared because most of the stuff is seen as "Glam". Yes there is a lot to do in the game if you go back doing old stuff in previous expansions but here I'm specifically speaking of the current patch we play on. I think it would be something exciting going forward another 10 years if they go out of their comfort zone.

I would love to see Yoshida come up with a completely new idea/framework for an MMO instead of being stuck with what 1.0 left him and iterating upon that. I get this is his baby now and all the things I disagree with fall squarely on his shoulders as the director, but if FF16 turns out to be an incredible game I would absolutely love to see what he does with an entirely original MMO built on a modern engine and new ideas.

Exactly! 16 was a chance for the team to take a break from 14 and do something fresh and so far it looks absolutely incredible, but I feel the same way, what can he and the team do with starting from fresh, even using a new engine like UE5 that makes it so much easier to build open world content. I think that's why he made that statement of wanting to do another MMO before he retires, because he had to work magic with limitations, and now with all the experience from changing 14, what can he do starting from scratch and getting to make something in his creative vision as a video game designer/producer, it's exciting to think about

I'm on board for a new MMO. I'm imagining that FFXVI is akin to FFXII (FF12) which had a lot of the breeding grounds of what made FFXIV (1.0). Given the faster action combat and interesting mount movement, I'm already paying attention. If they could nail the roleplay element on top of that.. oh man (one of the things I feel FFXIV struggles with).

I imagine FFXIV and FF (new mmo) could also easily coexist, akin to FFXI and FFXIV, if there are enough differences like for example action combat. As FFXIV took a lot of hints from WoW (as it should, that doesn't mean carbon copy of course.. as it should not), then I feel FF (new MMO) could take hints from the best of like ESO, GW2, other like games, and then naturally their own knowledge. Perhaps taking hints at a more horizontal or skill based system, I still LOVE the ability to do things myself but that can be represented in more ideas than just gear creep which has consequences.

That all isn't to say I think FFXIV is bad, still play it cause it's fun. But potentially if they were able to capture the modern spirit with the trappings of true roleplay game, which is almost essentially what they've described FFXVI as.. I'm in. Besides hoping for some different imaginations on classic concepts and core changes (which I've littered thoughts throughout the forums on) and which I wouldn't wish on current players because I don't like stealing the carpet from out under people, is that I also I feel a new space to recreate the first time player magic would be nice.. 10 years is a while lol. Even when an idea is new it's still hard to be surprised, just the nature of familiarity.

Couldn't ever say I knew deep down to the Lil things, what it all needs.
<expected and necessary text explaining ones rambling-or-difficulty to keep it short HeRe>

I've said it alot, but I'm more leaning to the color on the roulette. That FFXIV will likely set up its final structures in the coming years, whilst simultaneously FINALLY(for the older players) growing its depth of content for those who need/want more.<Set you depth levels, as not many would know how you see it from a thin film, to almost barely off your feet>

As for a New MMO from SE, FF? or not, YoshiP? or not.

Like I've said when I was more active weeks ago, kinda early to tell, just like it's early to tell what the outlook will be til at least the first two Fanfests and the story/.x series concludes.

Though, I'm very optimistic that SE has at least a handful of competent people thinking ahead for their MMO Sectors.
<By which I mean, that they likely have a few ideas already as to what they'll probably want to work on when the next 10 years look to be upon them in the terms of developing a new MMO. Right as, or to release just as it ends or a bit after.>

As at least one other has said, some engines just become more and more apparent as being unable to Hold what many could Expect to Define a MMO of the traditional, or current expectations.
<Basically, I agree that RN UE is a terrible choice. But SE usage has definitely been clear, and I can't recall if XVIs was stated to be something specific, asides that it wasn't tied to something.>

The topic of what the best details for a new mmo can go on forever. So I won't bring those up, since in the end that will literally depend on the servers of the time anyways, and how it may have advanced in multiple fronts by that time. (Afternote: i failed)

[Who knows, it might even take the extremes and disconnect what the series is know for completely from the game, and even out the stats only when in a story mode, til we are released back into the normal game.]
[They are, at the very least wiser on avoiding the restraints when building/rebuilding a game. Some may say it's a blind optimism to expect it to affect development. Yet they cannot really deny that it did affect, and still affects things, even how they perceive things to work. Excuse or not.]

If we are to go through things one by one.

I at the very least can imagine the inner regions of the world map to be much larger and connected, before it'll eventually fragment into middle-to-outer zones and boundaries of the same size. With potential transitional zones connecting new areas. <With the inner zones larger focus on the Hub>

I doubt SE, or as YP has expressed <whether you agree with him or not, regardless if its about XIV or what is done with the XVI combat giving impressions of what may occur elsewhere>
Which way the combat will go.., (You can say that they'll appeal to mass audience with action-and it's various forms-, a old/current/new hybrid, or stay even longer as traditional.) <I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to struggle with "greed" and try to fit all, not to please everyone or tick of a checklist of options. but to increase variety, and avoid some of the sameness/homogenized feelings a undeniable amount of players feel.>

As for graphics, I imagine by that time, we'll likely get something that is, if not close to the Trailers/Patch Reveals.[But this is still a long time away, with no way to tell what could happen in that time.](so I feel like I'm making a conservative guess on what could happen.)
[Don't have much bet/stock on future Stylistic artstyle from SE if it's a FF MMO, unless they not only tested the waters of the "Ratings" hole, but also merged ideas of multiple genres/styles and various Views of fantasy from east/west/etc.<as much as labeling the regions could make them unintendedly groan.>]

Off topic, but I'm genuinely curious, what is the difference between (), [], and <> in your posts? I know I've mentioned your style before, it's just such a unique looking style.

Actually when it's paired with consoles yes there is limitations, I know from a guy that spends his trolling all day it's hard to believe but there is limitation in what a server can have. It's like Sea of thieves with Xbox, they added Devil's Roar years ago but cannot add new zones like that because the limitations the Xbox brings. Now most people play that game would be happy to see that zone deleted for something new created but that's something the developer has to choose.

square is currently keeping alive THREE mmorpgs.

realistically, one of these needs to die forever to free resources, and the other two remain in miant mode to not eat eachothers lunch.

    and so
    11) in maint but still popular enough to warrant,
    DQ10) popular, sees regular updates
    ffxiv) same as above

    short answer) no

the graphic update should also be updating the older crusty textures.

hopefully this coincides with them killing ps4 support
