That being said, 7.x series could also be a good time to change the director.

Overall, I do respect YoshiP for turning FFXIV from a poor XI clone to a successful standalone game, but he's been playing safe for quite a while and we need a fresh blood and perspectives in the development team.

I remember YoshiP said in the last LL that a lot of features in MMOs that he likes aren't popular anymore, and I suspect he's talking about old school MMOs, which I'd love to see more around (Old school systems like Class/Job fantasy).
Yes, I agree! He did an amazing job, but 14 is now showing it's age. I love the graphics update they are doing and continuing to support it, but we need new fresh next-gen material. I would enjoy him changing over management of 14 in the right hands while he is able to be free to create something new, fresh and amazing. I just posted this under a new comment buuut... I said, "My hope one day is to have an MMORPG that takes a lot of actual skill, aiming, blocking and timing attacks, hitting enemy pressure points like shooting an arrow or bullet at a large enemies weak point to temporarily weaken it so the team can unleash some powerful attacks, hiding behind pillars or trees, using the environment, things like that would be incredible in an open world detailed sense. Going on hunting quests with your friends, kind of like how 11 required a lot of time and skill. I know things are faster now and "people don't have the time", but the same could be said for when 11 was out years and years ago. Also Elden Ring is very difficult and loads of people play and enjoy the difficult content and challenge of it all." I just really am getting tired of the click and flashy attack, super fast, click and flashy attack and want more challenging battles and even changes in a dynamic environment. That's why I think UE5 would be great to develop it on and maybe it could be run on the PS6 as a base since something like this would be years and years away you know? It's really exciting to think of possibilities!

The problem with XVI potential success is that they are shooting themselves in the foot by releasing PS5 only. I'd buy the game if I didn't have to buy a $500 system attached to it when I have a perfectly good gaming PC. Way to lose sales on purpose. I also have high respect for Yoshi but the game is not innovating. SHB was a low point in gameplay for me and EW is just worse.

You really believe all the times he cites "hardware limitations" or "engine limitations" lol?

Like the time when he said displaying whether attacks are physical or magical has a server limitation??

    Lmao

And it's a huge directorial mistake. It costs more dev resources to keep trying to come up with something new instead of expanding on and improving existing systems. Their default response to negative feedback has been to just gut the content type altogether instead of fixing the things people find unfun about it since HW now, with Diadem being the most classic example.

It's literally the same mistake as WoW lmao

I would be up for trying a new MMO from Yoshi-P and his team. He may not be perfect, but he has shown he can lead a games development well and I would be interested in seeing what he could do with another IP or something. SE though? Outside of FF they are just dropping the ball over and over again with all their NFT rubbish ect. Even with the FF name, I would have worries if XVII was a MMO.

All that said, I hope/think FFXIV still has a long life ahead of it, even if Yoshi perhaps leaves for other things one day.

They have stat tracking on how much players actually play said content that they add so they know what to look for.

Ultimates, eureka/bozja which are a huge upgrade to Heavensward's Diadem that they actually kept in the game, criterion and PvP or even the island are "new" things so to speak since Stormblood.

The only reason why FFXIV is slow and tedious in terms of making changes or developping new, refreshing content is because they listen the JP community too much and are very limited due to the nature of the engine of the game.
The base code and engine for the game is terrible due to the fact that they had to rush game developement, you just have to see how long it takes for a friend list to load, the very limited choices for hair colours, the fact that they can't put a glamour dresser in houses without it crashing the servers, and how hard it is for them to optimize the maps so they don't start lagging ur game and obviously the item dyes/clothing physics etc.. the list keeps on going

Pretty much why I personally hope they'll make a new MMO one day, with a decent base and engine that'll make things to be much more interesting
Lol you people are truly on copium if you think a new engine would magically solve what is ultimately a directorial and management issue.

    Didn't say it would solve anything so don't try to twist my words, I even mentionned the fact that they are listening to JP community which is in itself a directorial/management issue, just that it would be "much more interesting" if they had an easier ground to develop things on;
they do have sh*t budget and a low amount of staff members for the current scale of the game so I agree on the management issue

    Getting back on topic.

I would love a combat system similar to FF7R. Some of the characters already have pretty good job designs like Cloud(WAR), Tifa(MNK), Yuffie(NIN), Aerith(WHM).
While it would still have some Trinity elements (tank, heal, dps), it would also have more specialized roles such as "stagger setup", "stagger damage increase" and some support such as time magic.

Yes, they had a great compromise between nostalgic and modern gameplay with 7:R's batte system. I love how they included the environmental aspect (like having to hide behind objects and such). That's what I wanna see, not just a static world with a battle system, but utilizing changes in the environment, there's SOOO much they could do with that. An ogre boss for example could be found around a specific area like an open part of a valley, and if your party engages it, it can pick up boulders and throw them, some boulders your healer might need to hide behind occasionally and if your party is taking way to long to kill the ogre and it uses all the boulders, it makes it harder to kill it as time goes on, etc. Maybe some BLM spells require longer casting time or timing glyph placements that can miss if not aimed appropriately at the boss, stuff like that, much more challenging and complex boss fights. Maybe even one day incorporating an instanced area-wide boss fight (like how 14 did with Odin for example), that takes a few hours to kill so people have time to get credit and leave or come in halfway and help out, with really rare rewards. Maybe for big fights like that having to hide behind trees in the area, or BLM's coming together to summon a meteor to deal powerful damage to the boss, or tanks coming together to form walls during powerful attacks that people need to hide behind to survive, that stuff was sooooo much fun and so cool for me, I miss that!

I don't care too much for Unreal to be completely honest. Ever since UE3 I keep seeing games that look alright but run just fine or like total garbage. I don't trust the engine, and I'm also not very concerned with whatever SE is gonna make in 2033 at this stage. Like... I'm interested, but that's a long ways away.
