As always, the loudest don't speak for everyone, they always tried new stuff and most of the time people liked them and kept it/kept developping it further.
They have stat tracking on how much players actually play said content that they add so they know what to look for.
Ultimates, eureka/bozja which are a huge upgrade to Heavensward's Diadem that they actually kept in the game, criterion and PvP or even the island are "new" things so to speak since Stormblood.
The only reason why FFXIV is slow and tedious in terms of making changes or developping new, refreshing content is because they listen the JP community too much and are very limited due to the nature of the engine of the game.
The base code and engine for the game is terrible due to the fact that they had to rush game developement, you just have to see how long it takes for a friend list to load, the very limited choices for hair colours, the fact that they can't put a glamour dresser in houses without it crashing the servers, and how hard it is for them to optimize the maps so they don't start lagging ur game and obviously the item dyes which weren't a base feature of the game and was a later addition and themselves have said "the standards are too high" because players asked so the dyeing system would be better(more choices of what part to dye) clothing physics etc.. the list keeps on going
Pretty much why I personally hope they'll make a new MMO one day, with a decent base and engine that'll make things to be much more interesting

Ty for your reply! Excellent information, and yes, this is where I hope UE5 comes to the stage, lol. I've been so facsinated with the PS5's tech like the SSD's capabilities and UE5's tech since it was unveiled in 2020, and UE5 has so much new tech that would make making a new MMORPG not just a reality but fun for the developers themselves with Nanite, Lumen, One File Per Actor, World Partition, the fact that any foliage is now supported by Nanite, the list goes on, it's honestly so amazing, I get excited thinking about what they could accomplish with a fresh new start! As always, the loudest don't speak for everyone, they always tried new stuff and most of the time people liked them and kept it/kept developping it further.

Which means that if Yoshi P wants to actually do something different, rather than taking chances with FFXIV that he know won't succeed due to the playerbase, it's better for him to create something new and try to cater to a different audience.
And at the same time when they make the same old content... Players disliked it. So the argument is moot. Players are going to dislike anything done so at least try to make the game interesting instead of boring everyone in an exercise of futility in trying to appease those people who go out of their way to complain about everything in hopes of getting 5 seconds of internet fame.
LEt me answer that short, no matter WHAT MMO... you will end feeling bored.... if Final Fantasy 17 or whatever is the next one... then even if it is entirely different... you will end feeling bored because then you just get too used to that system.
So it is kind of a joke you are coming with there, no matter what MMO I played, when in endgame, you will face repetetative stuff and if you totally change the gameplay, the entire player base will leave.
I think WoW really hit the mark with the timewalking (or w/e the name is used for raids, I forgot) and M+ for dungeons, repetitive content can be challenging and fun. The problem is that in FFXIV they refuse to make it fun and challenging, or they completely miss the mark.LEt me answer that short, no matter WHAT MMO... you will end feeling bored.... if Final Fantasy 17 or whatever is the next one... then even if it is entirely different... you will end feeling bored because then you just get too used to that system.

And also, as I mentioned earlier, if they even dare try to make it a little bit challenging and more long-term, they'll get an absolute outcry from the people treating this as their 10th game instead of their main game because then they'll actually have to play the game a little bit, so yeah
With FFXVI potential success and the new SE CEO, I suspect YoshiP might hand over FFXIV to someone else prior to 8.0 whether by himself or under an assignment to work on a more important project. The reason why I say 8.0 is because according to YoshiP himself, he's busy with 7.0 and I think it can be quite disastrous to change directors mid-development. That being said, 7.x series could also be a good time to change the director.
Overall, I do respect YoshiP for turning FFXIV from a poor XI clone to a successful standalone game, but he's been playing safe for quite a while and we need a fresh blood and perspectives in the development team.
I remember YoshiP said in the last LL that a lot of features in MMOs that he likes aren't popular anymore, and I suspect he's talking about old school MMOs, which I'd love to see more around (Old school systems like Class/Job fantasy).
