    New MMORPG?

Hi everyone! This post is JUST for fun and speculation. I know Yoshi-P has said in an interview not long ago that he would love to make another MMORPG before he retires (which I think he's like 49 or 50? so like within the next 15 years it seems?), and wasn't like joking when he said it, so I'm curious what everyone thinks about this?

I know Square Enix has been developing a lot of games using UE5 (half the video games industry is tbh cause it's an incredible advancement in technology) such as KH4, DQXII and I guarantee FF7:R(just hasn't been officially announced yet). I know FF16 is right around the corner now, so it got me thinking if he were to get the a-okay to do something like this and started planning and creating next year in 2024, that's only like 4 years away or so from the PS6(which I'm sure will be very powerful especially if you mix it with the tech in UE5 as it advances over the next 4-5 years) and on average it takes like 5-6 years to make these kinds of games, so I'm curious if anyone else thinks this could ever happen if they were to use UE5 for a new MMORPG? We know it supports a lot of players in big maps(like fortnite) and UE5's one world partition system breaks those massive maps into a grid based system only loading in what's needed(and then ofc nanite renders foliage now in addition to geometry with lumen lighting everything you can see for GI), and I think it's plausible they could make something incredible for the next-gen as the time arrives.

Yes I know he wants to support FF14 for the next 10 years and they are still putting a lot of work into it, but like 11 it will probably not need so much support as the next few years go on and eventually they will want to start creating something new, and I would love it to be a new MMORPG type game! Look at the recent "Chrono Oddysy"(spelling?) MMORPG game coming out on UE5, it looks wonderful. If they can do it, why not Yoshi-P's team?

What do you guys think? Again, this post is just for fun and speculation, I don't need anyone yelling at me please...

With a different dev team hopefully that actually innovates in the content they create. Hopefully. Content in FFXIV is always more and more of the same and it's an absolute bore.

With FFXVI potential success and the new SE CEO, I suspect YoshiP might hand over FFXIV to someone else prior to 8.0 whether by himself or under an assignment to work on a more important project. The reason why I say 8.0 is because according to YoshiP himself, he's busy with 7.0 and I think it can be quite disastrous to change directors mid-development. That being said, 7.x series could also be a good time to change the director.

Overall, I do respect YoshiP for turning FFXIV from a poor XI clone to a successful standalone game, but he's been playing safe for quite a while and we need a fresh blood and perspectives in the development team.

I remember YoshiP said in the last LL that a lot of features in MMOs that he likes aren't popular anymore, and I suspect he's talking about old school MMOs, which I'd love to see more around (Old school systems like Class/Job fantasy).

Well that's what I mean, if they used a new engine and didn't have restraints from severe hardware limitations (aka the ancient PS4 lol), etc. I think they can really get creative with fresh ideas and what they'd like to do. My hope one day is to have an MMORPG that takes a lot of actual skill, aiming, blocking and timing attacks, hitting enemy pressure points like shooting an arrow or bullet at a large enemies weak point to temporarily weaken it so the team can unleash some powerful attacks, hiding behind pillars or trees, using the environment, things like that would be incredible in an open world detailed sense. Going on hunting quests with your friends, kind of like how 11 required a lot of time and skill. I know things are faster now and "people don't have the time", but the same could be said for when 11 was out years and years ago. Also Elden Ring is very difficult and loads of people play and enjoy the difficult content and challenge of it all.

You really believe all the times he cites "hardware limitations" or "engine limitations" lol?

Like the time when he said displaying whether attacks are physical or magical has a server limitation??

    Lmao

That's because just about every time they have tried doing something different in FFXIV, players ended up disliking it. So they are sticking to the same old formula that they know works.

Yes, I agree! He did an amazing job, but 14 is now showing it's age. I love the graphics update they are doing and continuing to support it, but we need new fresh next-gen material. I would enjoy him changing over management of 14 in the right hands while he is able to be free to create something new, fresh and amazing. I just posted this under a new comment buuut... I said, "My hope one day is to have an MMORPG that takes a lot of actual skill, aiming, blocking and timing attacks, hitting enemy pressure points like shooting an arrow or bullet at a large enemies weak point to temporarily weaken it so the team can unleash some powerful attacks, hiding behind pillars or trees, using the environment, things like that would be incredible in an open world detailed sense. I just really am getting tired of the click and flashy attack, super fast, click and flashy attack and want more challenging battles and even changes in a dynamic environment. That's why I think UE5 would be great to develop it on and maybe it could be run on the PS6 as a base since something like this would be years and years away you know? It's really exciting to think of possibilities!

That is partially the problem though, I agree with that. FFXIV players dont like/ are not tolerating any sort of innovation and then complain that there is none.

    It's a vicious circle really

And it's a huge directorial mistake. It costs more dev resources to keep trying to come up with something new instead of expanding on and improving existing systems. Their default response to negative feedback has been to just gut the content type altogether instead of fixing the things people find unfun about it since HW now, with Diadem being the most classic example.

It's literally the same mistake as WoW lmao
