I wont assume this will ever happen, but it's something I hope they do if SQUARE wants the game to be more appealing in the long run. If you said that the crafter and gatherer questlines have been massively improved and patched, I wouldn't believe you.
While they've made alot of the crafts you need to do more streamlined after ARR, there is still a massive issue with these jobs;
That is the amount of running you need to do between 2 NPC's. A single quest might have you running up to 5 times just delivering messages or thoughts from the quest giver and this is what I would call the definition of insanity.
The amount of patience that a person needs when you get an NPC telling you to go talk to this other NPC that is on the other side of the city, and then getting 2 dialogue boxes saying "what you doing here lol, go back"...
If I didn't love FF14 as much as I do this would be the thing that would make me never touch the game again.
I get that you're not supposed to become an omnicrafter within a day or two and blitz through the learning process of how to craft. But the game specifically sets all crafters in such a way that you need to level each crafter and gatherer simultaneously to be able to craft a specific thing from the goldsmith tree that the leatherworker questline needs.
So you're knees deep in this nonsense where you have to go through all 8 crafter questlines at the same time, running around and teleporting probably thousands of times to random locations. And if you're like me and avoid the marketboard at all costs, you're also teleporting to gather some random bits and pieces all over Eorzea.
Now I would say most people use the marketboard for the crafting materials to make things a bit more reasonable. But the truth is, that it's not reasonable, not by a long shot.
Now this complaint is targeted mostly towards ARR & Heavensward portions of the questlines.
Ideas for fixes;
- Just give the materials for players in Heavensward portion. You do get them pretty cheap and easy from Idyllshire scrap vendor, but again, it's an additional trip you have to do every time you need something. (smarter people probably buy all the materials for all quests they need in one go)
- At the very least add a; "Go buy materials from Idyllshire Scrap Vendor to craft item X" to each Heavensward quest.
- Remove all "talk to this random npc or go do this emote here" in Heavensward portions, but this would require some dialogue changes and suddenly you'd be changing the entire crafter story. Point being there's a lot of nonsense to scrap out.
- In ARR portion it would be great that it gave items that are acquired from another job. The big headache of needing to level your goldsmith to make a sapphire which you needed for your leather bracelet was just annoying.
TLDR; Alot of the headaches in ARR and Heavensward boils down to traveling between two NPC's and not knowing what is the best location to get materials.
