I figured this out finally. The overall issue was one of expectations and interpretation used with form entries. If your assessment of the questions posed on an application varies, even subtly, from what the form's creator expected, both applicant and form engine easily end up on side trips.

First issue was "Select Service Account." This form shows 'n' avatar pictures, one representing each service account the player owns. To the side of these pictures is a small blue arrow. My reaction was to click on this arrow, and thereby the avatar's picture itself, to "Select Service Account." Nopers! Selecting service account is done by selecing one of the gray tabs up top, same display, and then clicking the "Select Service Account" button, a longish orange affair just below. Clicking on the arrow allows visits to the Bronx Zoo, but not the desired account.

Second Issue was believing that in order to change payment method to Crysta, one had to cancel the existing subscription. I didn't believe it, even after noting that requiement many times over. It has taken years to build this character, and the thought of losing it was simply unacceptable.. and since "Cancel Subscription" looks suspicious enough, I simply would not, could not go down that path. The result was chicken in the corner of the coop, still bouncing it's head the next day. Yeah. Eventually I came to accept that, and "tried it once" to see what happens. All good happened, but it is still not a mechanic I would have chosen. "Cancel" is scary.

Third issue was the Service Account Dashboard. Thereon one finds a picture plate showing an artist's rendition of a creditcard image with the words CreditCard/Crysta Payment. Below that are 3 light blue links, one called "Register/Update Payment Method" I was sent to this Dashboard many times to actually select Crysta to be the payment method. I would look at it, and there find "Register/Update Payment Method" Thinking that meant what it said, I'd go there and voila, no Crystal select. Whaaa? So, back through the whole procedure again... Whaaa? Still can't get Crysta to show up on the 'gang of six methods' which usually shows 5 cc and one blank space. Nothing. By now weeks have gone by and still no clue what is wrong. Square won't say, for reasons relating to security - that's a whole different issue. In any event, I finally discovered that the picture plate of the creditcard image *is itself a clickie* and I tried it - now, after weeks of this, I got it to work. Yeah. One of the world's "who knew" fun things. Anyway, there it is, and I hope that over time, others are helped by this. Later!
