I am going to make a serious attempt at a guess and say a general rise in damage and random hate drops... including needing to kill all spikes or hellfire does a default 9999.

nope you have to do the relic crap to unlock ifrit.gotta get the 3 seals from each hamlet but the 25k item and the stupid 4 tier double meld to unlock the relic reborn quest that allows you to do ifirt extreme

I"m pretty sure Ifrit Extreme works like Ifrit hard mode if you don't have the requirements you can still enter to help but you won't get anything out of it. It would be pretty goofy if they required you to have a party of 8 which all have the relic weapon in hand lol.
