Some of the best looking gear in the game is undyeable, yet the majority of it actually does have the necessary characteristics. It's simply not flagged as such. A way of switching that flag to on, perhaps in the form of a crafted augment, would be rather welcome. It may also behoove them to consider updating the dye system with a proper color wheel, so that people have more customization options. They could simply have categories: standard, metallic, etc. That way, a proper distinction would remain, and SE and players alike could continue to profit off dyes.

I absolutely agree a crafted augment to enable undyeable gear to become dyeable would be a wonderful thing to have. As far as updating the dye system to a color wheel, I feel that may be a bridge too far for the developers.

It is much easier to adapt the current system than it is to test every hue, saturation, and brightness combination in every environment and lighting that a character might encounter. Then again, I've been wrong in the past about what a dedicated developer can pull off within a gaming engine.

I believe, and I fully admit I could be wrong, that the engine is already technically capable of it. They'd have to do a fair bit of work regardless, not the least of which being the creation of UI elements that interact with the numbers in the appropriate way, but it should definitely be fully doable. That said, I suspect they will be reworking the engine at some point in the future. It's showing its age. If they were to implement something like this, an engine rework might be the best time.
