    Regarding Dyes

One of the things I like about FFXIV is its dye system. It makes it easy to alter the look of your character by changing the color of your gear.

But, I feel there is room for improvement. I'd like to suggest three things.

Since the end result of a dye often depends on the base color of the gear, give us the ability to stack dyes. This will give us more vivid colors, particularly with purples and pinks. It will also allow players to tinker with dyes to get just the right color they desire.

Give us the ability and gear to apply dye in different places. The altered gear was a great start. Let us color the other part of the gear.

Give us dye which apply patterns to our gear. Rather than a single color, this would allow player to significantly customize the appearance of our gear. Spots, stripes, checkerboard, there are all kinds of patterns which would appeal to a player.

Furthermore, all these dyes could inspire the creative team of Square Enix and allow their artists to show off their artistic talents with new ideas about color, fashion, and design.

This would be amazing for us, but really bad for SE. Some dyes are only available through the mogstore. If you could stack colors to achieve a pure white dye or pure black dye then you wouldn't need to spend $10 on one set of dyes.

I would love more customization with dyes but I am begging, PLEADING with SE to please make dyes actually uniform across all items. It's so annoying to dye a housing item like a partition a certain color, say "Grape Purple", and then the matching door partition for that style looks like a completely different shade when its dyed the same color

Good point and one I hadn't considered. I guess it would depend on how much money SE is making from certain dyes from The Mogstore vs the goodwill they would generate if they enabled dyes to be stacked.

I've run into that myself. Sometimes, the dye is influenced by the base color of the item, and sometimes, you just want to tear your hair out because there is no rhyme nor reason to it.

Some of the best looking gear in the game is undyeable, yet the majority of it actually does have the necessary characteristics. It's simply not flagged as such. A way of switching that flag to on, perhaps in the form of a crafted augment, would be rather welcome. It may also behoove them to consider updating the dye system with a proper color wheel, so that people have more customization options. They could simply have categories: standard, metallic, etc. That way, a proper distinction would remain, and SE and players alike could continue to profit off dyes.

I absolutely agree a crafted augment to enable undyeable gear to become dyeable would be a wonderful thing to have. As far as updating the dye system to a color wheel, I feel that may be a bridge too far for the developers.

It is much easier to adapt the current system than it is to test every hue, saturation, and brightness combination in every environment and lighting that a character might encounter. Then again, I've been wrong in the past about what a dedicated developer can pull off within a gaming engine.

The biggest problem with dying is that they are limited on the number of dyes in the game and the gear only supports one dye channel. This is not what they wanted but it’s due to server limitations when it comes to sending information about your wearing to everybody.

I believe, and I fully admit I could be wrong, that the engine is already technically capable of it. They'd have to do a fair bit of work regardless, not the least of which being the creation of UI elements that interact with the numbers in the appropriate way, but it should definitely be fully doable. That said, I suspect they will be reworking the engine at some point in the future. It's showing its age. If they were to implement something like this, an engine rework might be the best time.

Yes please but I doubt it will happen if anything at least give us more dyes in general.

I get the point you're making, but there aren't any dyes that are exclusively only available on the cash shop. They're just easier to get that way. You can acquire them through ventures, the market board, or even the recruitment program feathers.
