Loosing fps when playing videos on second screen

Hey everyone! i noticed that am loosing like 10 - 15 fps whenever I play a youtube video on my second monitor for example. Whenever i stop the video I get the fps back. I have FF playing on my 2K monitor and I use another 1080p monitor for other content. Its not a game breaking issue but I was just wondering if it was normal for FF, cause I think losing that amount of fps is a bit much for just a video.

Are you playing the game at 1440p with unlimited frame rate or above 60 and using Borderless Window mode, if you are, that might be why it is having this behavior.

You could try capping the FPS under Display to 60 or 72 or whatever your refresh rate is if its above 144Hz to "Half refresh rate" and see if it helps.

Or change to Windowed Mode to test.

The refresh rate of both monitors have to be the same. I ran into the same issue years ago when I upgraded to a 144hz screen and using my old 60hz screen as a secondary was causing XIV to stutter when playing a video.

I bought a dirt cheap 1080p scepter monitor that also did 144hz and the problem went away lol.

To test if that is also your issue, change your main monitor to 60hz in the display settings within windows.

Running uncapped your GPU is at 100% utilization, so of course any other task it's asked to do will drop the framerate a bit. Why run XIV uncapped though? It's just creating a lot of waste heat, wearing out fans etc with no benefit. Competitive shooters I get, but not an MMO.

Have to agree that running this game with Unlimited Frame Rate set to On is not wise.
Not good for your Hardware especially if you play for hours at a time.

I would cap it at 60 or at most 72 (144Hz).
