+1, I'd be for this kind of thing. It would be nice to see the open world have more reason to be there.
But that would require people to actually want to grind rather than auto-pilot through roulettes before going back to their respective RP hubs to afk/jerk off.
Apologies if that offends anyone but as someone who actually enjoys working hard for relics, this feels like a slap in the face.
The same can be said about fates. You can farm bicolour gemstones rigth now....and yet you get your roulette fix whenever you so wish, they're not going anywhere. When exactly are those of us who want something different to roulettes meant to get actual content, then? The tomestone event currently live also revolves around roulettes.
Maybe the player population and retention for players who do more than hang around in venues isn't very solid and so this is a cynical attempt to desperately try and breathe new life into roulette queues. Even as they continue to update the bulk of the game to be completed solo style.
You can not seriously imply that grinding fates isnt a complete auto-pilot business. If anything it's even worse auto-piloting than roulettes. But that would require people to actually want to grind rather than auto-pilot through roulettes before going back to their respective RP hubs to afk/jerk off.
Apologies if that offends anyone but as someone who actually enjoys working hard for relics, this feels like a slap in the face.
How on earth was that your takeaway when I called the current system "the most boring side content imaginable"? Obviously I don't prefer this setup. I think this system is ass and I'd have loved a system that wasn't so dull. All I meant was I also think these weapons are ugly as hell, so I'm like... low-key glad that they're not a huge pain in the ass to get, since they're gaudy af and I've glammed over all of them. In ShB I did the relic quests while they were relevant on all of my jobs primarily because I liked the way they looked, but later because it was BiS. But I think what's always driven me to bother with these is their appearance. If the 6.4 ones look like shit too, I'll just get one on my main job and then not even bother.
Really hoping that's a mistranslation. As much as I don't mind just getting tomestones, it's also a bit...well, boring.
From what I've heard, Criterion dungeon seems to be a a bit overtuned for the difficulty level they were claiming it to be, but the variant level is pretty darn casual.
But even if the relics were to be tied to something that base-level casuals can't complete, is that really such a bad thing? If you're not even attempting harder content, a tome weapon (which I guess the relic currently is, but I digress....) or a crafted weapon is more than enough to get you through the game. And I say this as someone who has only ever completed two EX-trials while current and pretty much ignores harder content.
Relic weapons should be something that actually take time and effort, give people a goal to work towards. They shouldn't be something handed out for simply running your dailies. Sadly, this game lacks so much depth, and it's disheartening that this seems to be the best they're able to come up with these days.
My opinion but I feel doing FATEs with some form of RNG attached to it is more engaging than doing the same dailies that we do every day. It felt like more effort was involved than the gutted version of a relic grind we have now where everything is basically handed to you. If that's fun or rewarding enough for you, cool. Go enjoy it. Let the rest of us voice the valid complaints we have. For me, it's incredibly boring and is honestly making me consider just going full force on savage for next tier just to avoid doing it, which is really sad as relics were/are my favorite part of the game.
I'm also just irritated in general that it was said this grind would be similar to HWs and none of that has really come to fruition. When I think of HW, I don't think of exchanging tomestomes for every single step.

Disappointing to hear that they are happy with their current approach to relics, especially when they have brand new content in variant dungeons that are being abandoned by SE on their release and seem like the perfect place to add in a "grind" for relic upgrade items.
If they didn't announce more Variant content already, I'd sincerely believe that they forgot about it.
>Implying that any relic sans the original 2.0 ARR relic that involved Hard mode primals had you working hard.
The term you're looking for is 'time consuming / random for the sake of slowing progression and not for any kind of actual challenge.' Plenty of the steps of old relics are even more monotonous than grinding tomes are. Jumping between two different FATEs in Outer la noscea killing two bosses that had absolutely zero chance to kill you to get that atma of the lion with a massive horde of players zerging them was truly engaging content.
Or spamming the exact same instance 1000x because it's the 'optimal' route was truly riveting. Least with the current relic you could challenge yourself to entirely farm the 1500 tomes entirely off of extreme trials & savage new player bonuses if you wanted to make this relic chain the hardest relic chain ever.
