Game Settings reset?

So I logged into the game today (through steam, if that matters), and a bunch of game settings were all messed up.

About half my saved gear sets are just gone. The gear sets I did have left, the hotbar set up is rolled back, or just randomly messed up, and their saved state is NOT what I saved them as (like, some don't even have their job soulstone equipped). My glamor plates seem to still all be there, but none are tied to any gear sets anymore.

I know this is just a minor inconvenience, but having to rebuild my hot bars for almost every class, retie all my glamor plates, just sounds awful and has me not really wanting to play right now.

I have no idea what i did to cause this. I'm hoping anyone knows WHY this would happen, to make sure that it wouldn't happen again. I even tried to download my saved settings from the main menu, even though idk if that includes Hotbar and gear setups, but it's just gone. Says no saved data. But I know I saved it a couple of months ago to copy the setup onto the ps5 the next time I play on that. Though I never did, so idk if it actually affects hotbar set ups, but the gear set seem to be saved on the server, because all that was on the ps5.

Any, idk, anything would be appreciated. It just seems to be such an....odd thing to happen. And I've never had some weird bullshit like this happen in FF14. A minor inconvenience, I know. I'm just a little salty that my play time today is going to be spent fixing this.

ultimately, the issue is going to be on your system, because thats where your setups are typically saved.

doesnt matter if its steam or pc, its saved in your Documents folder. if they are gone or corrupted, something was moved, deleted or corrupted in your Documents folder.

OMG IF FCKN ONEDRIVE!!

It has to be. I unsynced it because it was doing stupid shit with my Sims4 mod folder. Fixed the issue and resynced. But it's been being dumb. Onedrive is the stupidest thing ever. I just didn't think it would affect ff14.

But I thank you for letting me know those settings are saved system side. It has to be OneDrive.

Unsynced and never using it again. Had a small hope it would find the files and revert to the old setting. But idk, guess it saved over it since I started the game. So still have to rebuild all my characters, but will never sync that nonsense again.

I swear it better not have jacked my Factorio saves. One is like 350 hours into Space Exploration. Haven't opened it since I synced it, so hopefully it's fine.

All because I thought it would be an easy way to open excel files from my computer, on my phone.

Hotbar setups, gear, macros, etc. are character data, not client data. Client data is the more obvious gear icon on the log in screen. To get Character Data, you need to right click (or square button) the specific character's name in the log in screen and select the backup/download character data option (I forget the exact wording) to get things that are backed up as that. Of course, if you've never backed up character data in the first place, there is likely nothing there to download. :/

But yeah, Character Data is basically:
• HUD Layouts
• Hotbar Settings
• Character Configuration Settings
• User Macros
• Other general settings (such as log text colors, the size of Bahamut-egi, etc.)

Its on a per-charaacter basis.

I want to emphasize the above point. If you click the backup restore icon above the character list, it restores system settings such as sound and graphics. If you click the backup restore icon next to an individual character, it restores character settings such as hotbars, macros and HUD Layout.

Ah. See I just backed up system settings then. Didn't realize the character settings were a different backup.

Well, annoying as it is, lesson learned. Especially in backing up character data... After I adjust my HUD, gear sets, glamor sets, and hotbar configs, I am IMMEDIATELY backing that up.

I was going to say OneDrive until I saw this response because my friend just had exactly this happen the other night because OneDrive decided it couldn't back up her Games folder since it already existed.
